Please can one of the diesel guru's offer some advice on my patrol. When I turn the steering wheel when idling the revs drop as load is applied by the hydraulic steering pump- this is a pita when offloading. I would imagine there is some or other compensator on the injection pump but I have no idea where to start looking. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

I reckon Steves can sort it out, after they modded my dads 4.2 when he put AC on it revved to 3000rpm, after 50rpm over idle, so I suspect them must be some degree of control in your case. My dads mod btw was not too pricey.

The revs should drop a fraction, but not more than say around 50 rpm. My 4.2 idles at 700 - 750 depending on if aircon is on or off. if I work the steering under load a slight audible drop is heard and the revs might drop to 650 - 700rpm. What is the idle speed ( when at normal operating temp)?
The way to rectify the idle speed.... I'm not sure, and would suggest SAC - Centurion for this, as they are the 4.2 gurus
