Does anyone know if there is any difference between the left and right gas lift in a 2003 30TDI model. I popped into Midas to order a pair, but gave only the LHS one in to match. Each unit clearly has a L and a R printed on the outer body - any reason?? they both seem identical from a mounting point of view and I would assume that the pressure would also be the same.
Can I safely order two identical units?

Sure, will do - Graham did mention to me when I serviced with him last month that he could source Gabriel units. He is away on leave at the moment, so when my bonnet started collaping on me I thought I would try Midas - I do think that Graham is due back tomorrow so i'll give him a call.

About R300 each iirc. Both struts are the same. The Gabriel ones you buy from midas are much better quality than the OEM ones. Don't make the pressure too high though.

in theory the part no defines the pressure, if you go to Diesel Electric they can increase the pressure or tune it, or refill/ repressurize within a certain date from purchase. our's is actually not that high, modern bootlids that works on short cranks have nearly double teh pressure. Diesel Electric was almost half teh prize of Midas, I think I paid 320 for both.
The guys at D E fitted mine, checked the feel/ weight and suggested I increase it a bit, went into teh shop 5 minutes later it felt much better. I'
