Welcome with us. :welcomewave:
Take your time and look for a Patrol!!! You will not be sorry. There are not many that have switched from a Patrol to other makes - And for good reason.
Once you drive a Patrol you will understand.

Welcome Adam.
With a little more than 160k you can now find a 4.8 Patrol. There is a big difference in power and especially if you would like a silky smooth and capable tiptronic gearbox....
I have had both 4.5 manual and 4.8 GRX - I can assure you its worth it.
I think do a little homework first and test drive a few before you decide. ... :oldtimer:

Welcome Adam

Patrols are scarcer, but I still believe they are better value for money. If you are patient, you will be able to buy much more car for the same money than with a 105 Cruiser. :mytwocents:

Hello and welcome Adam,

The Cruiser and the Patrol follows the same recipe and in truth there is not that much difference between the two when parked next to each other, small pro's and cons to either side - but in practice nothing that will change the world.

However, when you are shopping, and especially in the 160k ZAR bracket, there is a world of difference and you'll simply not be able to challenge the Patrol on value for money.

Then, also conosider, if you want to use and abuse the vehicle, consider the GQ's, youll get for 80k ZAR a reliable, well kitted specimen that will not disturb your mojo when you displace the odd flora or terra firma that happens to be in your way.

GU's have more powerfull engines, more luxurious trim and interior - though they are essentially the same breed. So, weigh your budget and your requirements and happy decision-making!

Regards

Marnus

Don't forget the fact that the LCs get stolen.
No-one steals a Patrol. The second hand and spare parts market is too small in SA.

Hi Adam

To give you a headsup, we looked at around 9 LC's before buying against "everyones" wishes a Patrol. My dad has returned from a 3 week trip testing its abilities today infact. Here's his sms
"Best vehicle I bought. Suits purpose perfectly thanks." To give you an idea he has purchased and sold every year a different "item" due to it not being well suited such as Explorer Caravan, trailers, Land Rover etc.

My bil a toyota fundi and game ranger has only known defenders and lc. He said next one is Patrol - "heck it has airbags" - talking about the bakkie version. My neighbour with his 76 loves it. Myself and other bil both in market for a sweet patrol.

Yet here's what I found lastnight...braving the cold

At 2003 LC 100 with 340k km for R280k or a 2007 75k km for R320k or a 2005 220k km for R180k. It really is hard for me to justify to the wife why a LC. Just in Boksburg I counted 5 Patrols and 4 Land Cruisers for sale. There's a nice red Patrol 99 for R89k check GumTree

oh and welcome (I dont have a Patrol yet myself  )
