Pintle hooks
For those guys with Y61's that have ogled the pintle hooks on the Y60's, I think I have found a source:
http://www.jost.co.za/rochitches.asp
It looks like the RO231A05000 with 86mm x 45mm mounting (I am n ot sure if the Y61's holes are spaced like that, but I think they are).
I have not phoned for a price though, but they have branches in Chloorkop/Kempton and in the cape.
However, take note that you may need to modify the aluminium step to create clearance for the pintle hook.

Re: Pintle hooks
For what reasons would one choose a pintle hook over a ball type hitch for a trailer or caravan?

Re: Pintle hooks
Me thinks they are used to tow heavy trailers like agricultural trailers fitted with towing eyes, not for the normal trailer of caravan.Chris Skinner wrote:For what reasons would one choose a pintle hook over a ball type hitch for a trailer or caravan?

Re: Pintle hooks
In this application, we are not talking about towing trailers, but about using it as a recovery point.
However, most military systems use pintle hooks rather than ball and socket. They are stronger and more wear-resistant but less refined.

Re: Pintle hooks
From Jost, the pintle hook is now R1834.19 ex VAT - but you can phone chantelle and she can give you contact details of their resellers who can supply at ±15% cheaper.
The one from SAF Holland, see picture, is R1760 ex VAT

Re: Pintle hooks
It seems trade discount by Jost is 35% and the Jost product then checks in just below the R1400. But the specs is much lower than the SAF Holland one.
I'll be making my own, modifying the bracket I received with my Ironman recovery kit and make my own recovery hook, similar in concept to that produced by other on the forums, but different in dimensions and utilizing the Ironman recovery hitch.
Regards
