Smokin Patrol

Hi,

On a more somber note,

When coming down Sani, Low Range 1st and 2nd gear, about halfway down I noticed a helluva lot of blue smoke coming from the rear. Clearly diesel fumes(maybe partially burnt diesel?).
Second gear was almost too slow, so I had my foot on the accelerator pedal, ever so slightly. Could this be the reason for the smoke? Over fuelling, turbo not boosting? Is it normal?
I'm not too worried about this, since it went away once I revved the engine a bit.(ok it made even more smoke when I did that, but eventually went away). And also no smoke once on the road.
Should I be worried? The truck only has 136K km on the clock.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

André

Andre, I wouldn't worry about that smoke, it is probably a little overspill of oil due to being at an angle, and maybe the valve stem seals not being in the best of condition ( old age). If your oil level was full, and now at an angle going down hill maybe that was causing a little excess oil getting into the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. Blue smoke normally indicates oil burning if I'm not mistaken.

I am no expert, but from what i have heard regarding diesels, it would be in your best interest to install a management system like a madman.

Andre, my petrol GQ was also smoking a bit the other day. Then I found where he was hiding the cigars , took them away and he has not smoked since then :woo:

Andre,
I do agree with the prognoses from Cedric.
Keep in mind going down the pas you are continuously engine braking causing the max vacuum on the intake side of the engine that would tend to suck oil any place it can get it.
This I feel is some indication of things which is no longer 100% due to wear and age.
During normal driving these engine brake durations would be very short lived and you would tend not to experience the symptoms observed.
I would feel this "issue" should start to bother you if you start to see this during normal day to day driving.
I would not worry about his as yet.
