Boiling Diesel engine

Post by Traveler »

Help please.

3.0 Diesel started boiling yesterday. Replaced the thermostat. Drove from the farm to Pretoria. Boiling spectacularly again in 20km's.

EGT went up to about 370DegC.
The temp gauge on the dash went to about 3mm below the red line before I stopped it.

Help needed, or should I just light the thing with a can of petrol and a Lion Match??
Should I buy something reliable again like a Toyota? Even my Defender gave me less hassles. :helpsign: :helpsign: :helpsign:

In this heat, make sure your viscous fan is locking up if its taking 20kms before O/heating - there should be drag on the fan when its hot - mustn't "freewheel" when turned, could also be worn water pump vanes. Just feel if it was something really major it would overheat quicker than than. Maybe radiator needs a flush?

Clean radiator or replace
Clean intercooler
Check TURBO [at TurboWorks]
check injectors & diesel pump [especially for over fuelling]
check piston tops for hairline cracks - Head have to come off for this - have the head checked [pressure checked]
replace the water hoses & thermostat [after 200 000 km it deserves that
The radiator cap ?? Get REAL one from Nissan [pressure 1,2 ]
put RADIATOR FLUSH, drive 100 - 200 Km then rinse with strong water force BACKWARDS [remove thermostat first]

It has to be some circulation issue.
Did a pressure check this morning at Nissan and my brother in law did one at home. Not issues, also did a carbon test, no issues. Drove it from the farm to East Rand Nissan (42km), no sign of overheating this morning.

Thermostat (nuwe een by Nissan), verlede week.

4,2 ruil vir 3.0 ZD?? ek sou nie - want as daa ZD30 reg loop [soos Agarob] skop hy gat alles behalwe Gelandewagen..
