Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I would like your input on this matter.

I bought my Patrol with 118000 km on the clock (now 156000km), with a full service history, and I have tried to keep that FSH in place by servicing her at CRD and at SAC. SAC / CRD service average at about R 2000/2500 while a service done yesterday was R1100 at most.

Lately I have been wondering, I plan to keep my Patrol for a long time, another 10/15 years, and after that period, will a FSH be of any value on a 20/25 year old vehicle with say 350 000/400 000 on the clock.

You do not get money back on the extras that are fitted so I was wondering if the FSH will be of any value.

If you put 400 000km on your car and you service it yourself, you will save more money than what the FSH will win you.

Say you service your car every 10 000km it is 25 services to 400 000km + -. If you save R1000 on every service, it is R25 000 you will save by doing it yourself.

You will not get R25 000 more for a FSH on your car. My

IMHO a buyer of your Patrol in 10/15 years time will be a discerning Patrol lover, who will be able to judge the car, assess all moving parts without any reliance on a FSH.
So, if you are keeping the car for that long, then there is no value in the FSH.
However, you cannot really ever tell your future that well. "Die mens wik, maar God beskik".
So just in case you may want to sell in 1 or two years time...

There are always a lot of IF, BUT or MAYBE, in life.

If a G wagon Profesional crosses my path in future, things might change.

Maybe I find a late model GX when the children have left the house?

But keeping the all important PPPPPP in mind, I think I will do the servises myself, and more regularly.

Why do you think Delo is better than Magnatec, I had a look at both at Makro Delo 400 being cheaper.

I service myself but write it all down in the service book along with the any other things I fixed. I also keep all the slips of the oil, filters etc and file them under the kms the service was done at, so when you sell the Trol one day you can say, look I did it myself but here's the proof that I did.

FSH, I personally keep my vehicles in better shape then ANY agents out there ever can, and record everything in a file.

It's like motor plans, the biggest way how to load a new vehicle price by R 70 - 100 000.00 .

I only buy 2 nd vehicles thats out of warranty and motorplan, and I never bought a Lemon before.
Currently I service and maintain my current D3 at a fifth of the price, agents will charge, and I do it much better and proper.

I 've done the same with my 2 x Troll's , only one gripe you struggle to find generic parts for Patrols

Izak.... Sorry only saw the question you asked me now....

When I had my 3.0 V6 Sani, I had the standard hydraulic lifter noise that when I used either the shell helix or the castrol magnatec, the lifter noise was slightly noisier than when I changed to the delo 400. Delo 400 was recommended to me by a whole load of people on the Nissan 4x4 site, and on other forums too.

Be aware that ther is delo 400 and delo gold. I use the delo 400 only. The delo 400 is a synthetic oil, which I'm told is better than mineral... but hey what do I know....ha ha.... its all a matter of choice I guess
