Some advice please.

Have not driven the Patrol after GeroTeck(until Saterday), but saw that there is a big oil patch right next to the left front wheel when I took it out of the garage, does not look/feel like normal engine oil??

On the front of the diff 1/3 up from the bottom should be the plug that you can turn out and the oil should be at the same level as the hole.

Tx will have a look this afternoon, seems impossible to get someone to have a look this time of the year, so if necesarry will keep it topped up and hopefully wont have any problems till next year to have fixed

What is correct oil to purchase for the diff?

That nut ( round with square center ), if you are lucky can be removed with a socket wrench. The square piece fits into the square nut..... BUT.... I couldn't remove mine as they were last removed a long time ago. If you can get it to a garage with an impact wrench, that should get the nut out. While the nut is out.... remove the other one underneath the diff and drain the old diff oil and replace with new oil. replace bottom plug/nut and fill through the side hole where the other nut goes until ther new oil just starts to spill out ( you must be parked on level ground ) and replace the nut and fasten..... do the back one too while you are at it.

But if the leak is close to the wheels it could be those seals Tinus is talking about ( side shaft seals)

It is definately right next to the wheel as it almost seems that I was parked on the oil on inside of the wheel.

Thse are the Nissan "only" seels if memory serves me correct, so think I will stick to top up and let Graham take a look at it in the new year.

If topped up regulaly it should be fine???

Only two trips planned:
1. Krugersdorp to Berakah and back - 300km round trip
2. Krugersdorp to Rustenburg - 500km round trip

that should be fine. The oil can only leak out if the car is not level... ( hmmm it leaked out overnight while level ) but I think that it was/is just a little that possibly leaked over into the side shafts and then leaked out through the seals. So yes I think that it does need replacement as soon as possible, but will be ok it you keep a check on it and top up if need be.
