Recovery Gear & Points
Gents,
It is important to have correct recovery points on your vehicle and the correct recovery gear in the boot. As I have stated earlier, we all need to ensure that when stuck you are considerate and thus use your recovery kit for the recovery. I have a contact at Secure tech and will endeavour to assist anybody who does not have the necessary recovery equipment with a good price. Please send me an email at grantfrancis1@gmail.com.
My feeling is that having the correct recovery kit and points should be mandatory for every outing/trail.

This is my opinion and ideas are welcome.
We need to be safe here in all situations. A lot of guys think that good quality recovery gear is expensive. This is true to a point, but actually you will be quite surprised that a "BASIC" recovery kit reasonably priced. Do you have to go for the extreme recovery kit?? .... No.
Basic Recovery Kit....( Ensure the recovery points on the vehicle are suitable and SAFE for recovery. A tow bar hitch Ball is NOT a recovery point !!!)
1) 1 x pair of leather gloves ( Various kinds can be used - Welding gloves can also be used if you have a pair lying at home )
2) 2 x suitable RATED bow shackles ( not D shackles ) ( make sure the shackles fit into the recovery points on the vehicle )
3) 1 x RATED pull strap (tow strap). Remember you vehicle may weigh for example 2 tons. But how many times have you felt that sudden jerk as the strap takes tension.... there is a huge shock load on that strap. So here bigger is better keeping in mind the shackle rating !!
4) At least one weight bag or something of sorts to weigh the strap down so that should the strap fail, the strap get pushed towards ground.
5) 1 x pair of cheap rubber soled booties for walking in a river to attach the strap..... unless you don't mind getting your lekker shoes soaking wet

I have a bag that I got from Securetec that is always in my Patrol. If anyone wants to look at it and see whats in there etc. Just grab me before or after an event and I'll whip it out... and even mine is not complete yet.... building it up as i go.

Great,
A suggestion would be for all of us to have our recovery kit packed out at an event. We can then see what memebrs have and why. For exampla I have a dust coat that helps when you have to get under the car in the dust.
