In the market for a heart transplant - TB45E

Post by Kalahari Safari »

Hi guys,

After splitting my block with a broken con rod I need urgent replacement TB45E engine.
Anybody with a valid lead for a refurb or out of accidented vehicle - please come back with details.

This is the second TB45E which has killed itself the same way, but first time round it was my fault as a result of a botched water crossing.
Any leads to a replacement motor?

Thanks guys, in advance.

I'm afraid I can't assist with a motor, but I read about the repatriation of your vehicle on the Community forum just minutes ago. Blokes like Henri (and all the others who helped) really deserve more than just a virtual knighthood!

I'm sure the guys on this forum will do their best to help with the sick Patrol - their a friendly bunch...

Has anybody been dealing with Engine Den in Pretoria, I got the lead from a member and would like to get some references.
Obviously they are in the process of importing a number of TB45E Engines from Japan, and I wonder how they can be checked out for abuse or history, mileage etc.

I am standing by for the decision process, prefer the easy way out as I cannot count on great expertise of engine overhaul and re-assembly from local workshops or engineering enterprises here in Botswana.
Thanks for ideas and assistance.

Wow, quite an ordeal.

Takes me back many years, after school I served a two year sentence driving superlinks through Africa to pay for university. Quite often give guys a lift on my empty return trips from Kampala and who knows where for the sake of having company on the long journeys - trick was to find a ramp, usually at a railway DPW base. Never, however, could I assist somebody that was in a pickle.

Just for the sake of us planning similar trips, what was the damage (unforseen costs: recovery, guesthouse, communications, a-frame/towbar etc) just give us an idea what to be prepared for, even if only to ensure you are creditworthy up to such point?

Regards

As for the repatriation costs, this is not straight forward but an indicator only:
Tow bar manufacture (material and labour) ZMK 650'000
Repair of burnt clutch on tow vehicle ZMK 3'150'000
Towing of 2 vehicles by 3rd party for +- 200 km ZMK 550'000 + ZMK 450'000
Hospital bill for one day ZMK 1'000'000
Repair of bent tow bar in Ndola (free of charge courtesy of Sergio Bettega @ Ndola Engineering)
Accommodation (guest houses for 4 People) 8 nights ZMK +- 450'000 x 8 x 4 = 14'400'000 (estimate)

The obove covers the route from Zambezi to Lusaka, from there another 3 days to Gaborone with SIR Henri's rescue trailer.
This gentlemen is charging us only costs and expenses - Thanks again Henri :salute:
