2012 AAWDC Funday: 2012/08/18: Rhino Park
Good morning all
We have entered the Nissan 4x4 Club for this event and the first target now is to get a team together. We need 10 vehicles (with driver and co-driver) to start with. A similar thread has been started on the Nissan 4x4 site and information will be cross shared. Nico Pienaar and myself are taking ownership of this event. More detail will follow soon.

Cedric, Christo, Grant, Andre, Charles Fry, George I hope are in. We need some more names as there are always issues that happen and then we need a substitute right at the end. Guys we need to up the stakes this year and therefore need enteries. For those who have not been there, please take note that this is a big day for clubs and manufacturers, as there is a lot of braging. Yes the Cruiser, Toyota, Jeep guys take this day as an important day to "brag". Our guys with the Patrols, convertet, Navaras and Hardbodies, even the Terranos, come and join us. Those who have not done this, come and find out if you realy drive so good as what you think. Some of us have found out we are not so good as the track is technical and you have to know your vehicle. The track does not break your vehicle[ well if you drive it properly ]. Lets get the momentum up for this day!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2012 AAWDC Funday: 2012/08/18: Rhino Park
Hi George
Can we also consider a training Saturday?
If we have too many entries (I think the max is 10), then those who attended the training day can get first priority.
Currently Saturday 11 August is part of a Nissan trip to Lesotho, so that won't work.
However Saturday 4 August may work or 28 July?
We could try and see if Rhino park itself is avaialble for training?
Vaughn, although not there for the event, may be able to help us with the obstacles & training, as they are likely to be similar to previous years, e.g. driving with a welding helmet on - co driver directs, driving obstacle in reverse, driving with a plate of water on the lap of the co-driver(!?) etc. I think such a training day wil make a huge difference to our ultimate success.
We have thus far steaduily crept up in the ranks from 14th, to 13th to 12th position, out of a total of 14 teams, this is poor...
We have the right vehicles for this job though. So practise is key.

We normally loose points with the Patrols because they are to wide and can not do sharp turns and keep touching barriers and poles
The ATV club win each year because they only use small swb jeeps.

100% I found this as well at last year's CT event. Best would be a SWB PatrolHerrie wrote:We normally loose points with the Patrols because they are to wide and can not do sharp turns and keep touching barriers and poles

Hi Kobus
Sure the Patrols are wide, but that only makes missing nthe banners more tricky, not impossible.
Some ofo the Hardbodys last year managed to make a few difficult turns missing banners (not always), which some shorter wheel base vehicles sometimes hit. Its just a little bit more tricky, but not impossible, right?
Tight corners is one excuse, but cannot explain everything. I still think there is big room for improvement on our side. However I also think if the obstacles are more difficult, more drivers from other clubs will lose points on unctornolled rollbacks and skids. I have only been to the 2011 event and generally I found the obstacles were not difficult enough (tricky with balls to toss and banners to miss, but not difficult from an obstacle grading point of view), so the Patrols do not get the chance to distinguish themselves.
