I did bend my Patrol at Klipkoppie

Hello all

Just behind the sump there is a thick steel pipe with a kink in, attached to both sides of the chassis, very close to the pannard's . The kink, bubble pointed down and after the track it is right next to the exhaust pipe.

What does this pipe do? Can I just loosen the bolts and bend it down again?

Regards

Izak

Izak - that is your stabilizer / anti-roll bar.

You can just unbolt it. The ends should be attached to the body via anti sway bar links. This is what many people replace with quick disconnects for better articulation

I doubt that it is the bar itself that is bent but from the picture that one bracket took a knock. What does the links look like?

Hello David.

Thanx. I thought it might be the sway bar's.

Both the links were pushed off centre where they are connected to the body but I cannot see any damage as they look the same.

Hope I can get them back in place with little effort.

Regards

Albei die links is seriously gebuig. Hulle behoort reguit te wees en nie soos n L te lyk nie

Gaan maar in Engels voortploeter.

Did the trail at Meyer Farm at the Klipkoppie festival, part of a church money collecting thing. All went well except I could not get the Patrol out of the mud hole, (no suspension kit and no Mud Terrain tyres)... Felt like an IDIOT spinning mud in every direction and going nowhere up the hill.

So after recovering myself in reverse, I did not want to add insult to injury by being recovered, I reversed out of the mud pit only to lose the left rear break light set against a embankment. (@#$%^&*()(*&^%%$##@#$%^&

The rest of the trail was easy until I got to some rocks. Saw them, and drove over them, felt the car getting stuck but STUPID (aka Izak or Sakkie) did not get out to see against what the rock was stuck. I believed it was one of Peter’s Bash plates, and I know they can take a litte strain, so STUPID forced the Patrol over the rock.

This morning while my wife was at church I took the heavy recovery rope, tied it around a pillar of the garage, and reversed the Patrol, 4x4 LOW. David said I could bend it back into place, so I tried and pulled the pillar's base about a foot out from under the garage. Tried again against a tree, and that worked.

The links are a bit less like an "S" but I assume they will never be straight again.

So that is what happened.

Question? Does it matter if they are not straight and if it does, what will be the influence on the car?

:rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

Dankie tog die boom staan nog!

Sakkie - ek dink die enigste manier hoe jy die links weer reguit sal kry is om hulle rooi warm te maak en dan reg te buig

Eina Izak.... dit is nie lekker nie. I've never seen that happen before!!

As a temporary fix you can disconnect the "S" shaped links and remove the anti sway bar. You will still drive ok just that when taking a corner, you will find that the patrol will dip the opposite way to what you are turning. That bar with the links helps keep the tyres planted on the ground with the least amount of body roll.

If you like, give me a call, and I'll come round to you and give you a hand quickly. I replaced my rear links not so long ago.

I sand corrected but I think the links are about R900 each from Nissan.

They can be easily made up too.... its just two small tie rod ends joined with a steel bar.... :eureka:
