We are leaving for the Tuli block on Friday. We plan to enter Botswana through Platjan.
1. What is the current status with regards to meat in to Botswana.
2. Is it only red meat? I gues chicken will be classified as veggies? :-)

On our recent trip, they were not in the least bothered. All the vet gates on our way north were unmanned and standing open (except the one just north of Kubu, which was unmanned and locked). The only time they checked was on the road between Kasane and Palapye, heading south.
They did however ask us about fruit at the border (Martin's Drift), although they did not ask to search.
Chicken and fish are not restricted.

Hi Wheels,
it seems to be how they feel on the day, last easter we travelled quite a bit through the pans and Moremi and had 2 completely different experiences!!!
On the way there, all the way from Martins drift, thru Nata, Moremi and kasane, we had no problems, but on the road from Kasane, back to Martins drift, we got stopped at each Vet check ( I think there were about 4), they were confiscating any meat ( unless smoked , like bacon), veggies, fruit and eggs!!! there were quite a few people braai ing to eat the meat. They even confiscated vacuum packed meat!!!! .

Ja, vacuum packing is just a word to them, they don't care.
The direction is important, they are more worried about meat from the north than from us, unless we have recently had an outbreak of foot-and-mouth.
Important to note though, cooked meat should be allowed.

Meat is also considerably cheaper in Bots than in SA. And it's of excelent quality. The only trick is, it's difficult to find meat that is correctly aged.
