Have spoken to JP a few times on this one , the error code was pulled by Nissan but they are too busy to attend to the vehicle so he is stranded so to say , have sent him some testing info via email , hope he gets it sorted

Hi Grootseun

Just for your info, from an earlier post of mine I had a similar problem where my vehicle also went into limp mode and when Nissan did the diagnostic it showed the crank sensor...R6K later which the dealer fortunately settled I thought all was well. A week after this the engine management light went on again, a further diagnostic showed the Throttle Body as the culprit but below this also hinted at another crank sensor. Nissan decided to sent the Patrol to a local auto electrician who let me know that it was the unichip that was faulty and had 2 choices, replace the chip or restore to factory settings.

By this time I was already without my vehicle for 4 days and did not have time for the installation so I asked them to restore my settings to original. The problem has since been resolved though. :mytwocents: My 2 cents, use it, don't use it....

Hi All,

Thanks for all the info received. You guys are great.

Herrie have spoken to Monica at Nissan SA. However, they are unable to assist - it seems that the part is not readily available. Monica is however still busy trying to source one.

Grootseun, Thanks for your the infosheet you've sent. Luckily had a multi tester with me. All came back positive with the correct readings, however, no response from throttle body.

In the meantime, the car went from bad to worse. Where it was initially just very lazy (due to throttle valve only opening slightly), it started to idle very rough, with even less power. strong fuel smell and blackish smoke from exhaust. To save whatever is left of the car, I have decided to call the brilliant roadside assist and have the vehicle towed to Nissan in Vredenburg.

Eben and his guys have been doing everything they can to try and sort out the vehicle. Everybody who I have communicated with, reckons it is caused by anything from the crank sensors, lamda sensors, oxygen sensors, airflow meters, wiring problem, etc.

So they have been running diagnostics, sent the vehicle to auto electrician. sent ECU to someone in CT to check out. All to no avail.

At the end of the day, Eben phoned me to confirm my worst fears: The have eliminated everything but the throttle body.

So my hunt for a used throttle body for 4.8GRX AUTO continues... :helpsign: I am sure that there must be one sitting in a vehicle in a scrap yard of some sort, somewhere in the country. Until then, the car will remain stationery at Nissan Vredenburg. A new one is out of the question, since I do not have R18,000 floating around at the moment. beside this, I gather from the whole Patrol experience that it will not be the guaranteed solution to the problem.

I have in the past 4 months fixed a couple of issues on the vehicle - and the issues tend to cover the each other. i.e. only by fixing one thing, the next underlying problem becomes evident.... I am really scared that this is the case AGAIN.

Again, thank you for everyone that offered help and opinions.

Contact JG Shields by PM and find out what happened to his? (if you don't know the story, his car was written of after a fire that affected mostly the front part of the transmission tunnel and interior.

Just an update for everyone.

Had a chat again to Eben at Vredenburg Nissan.
While the car was at the Auto electrician (Motolek), the car ran perfeclty for about 4 km, before the failsafe mode started again. Faulty throttle body vs dirty throttle body???

After chatting to Quinton, he advised that the car go to Adelberg - apparantly brilliant diagnostic guys. This has been arranged for monday.

I have some time ago, very late at night browsed through some forum, somewhere, about cleaning the throttle body. As this is a sealed unit, it required drilling a hole, cleaning with some contactor cleaner, and then letting dry and sealing the hole again.... I have searched again and again, but cant seem to find this particular article. If anyone else perhaps have read about this and can find the link, please let me know.

Again: You helpful forum members are fantastic! Makes a bad situation seem a lot better knowing there are still a lot of good people out there!
