Here's a chance for the Gauteng guys to get our VHF radios programmed to the new ORRA frequency:

"Good afternoon,

ORRA is having a (Radio day) gathering for members to program their VHF radio’s with the new frequency set, on the 10th December from 09:00 until 15:00 at the 4x4 ATV office at 446 Myburgh str, Capital Park. (behind LA Sport, Voortrekker Road, Gezina) The antenna’s will also be tuned to the correct length and checked.

Members must please bring their ORRA licenses with as no radio will be programmed without a valid radio license.

Programming fees are R50.00 per radio. For more information, contact Peter Claasen 082 558 6184

Please be advised that the ORRA office will be closed from 9 December until 9 January 2012.

Thank you.

Sorry Wilfred!

Peter says that this is only for the new VHF frequency that's been allocated, so there won't be any tinkering with HF radios...

:oldtimer: Hi guys, we have had Christo elected as our Nissan 4x4 club RADIO man. Some discussions have taken place for us as the club to for the March gathering to have a radio day. We will ask Christo to organise, and he will be assisted in this. The route we would like to take is to learn more about radios in general and also for the technical guys to get something out of it. We have found so many views and advise on radios , that it is confusing. So watch this space. It is a pitty the this planned thing in Dec is not done in Jan as then we could have attended, but most people are on leave as from 9th.

Cedric, if he does not have the new frequencies, you can find an ORRA-approved bloke on their web-site (http://www.orra.co.za).

I'll find out what's involved in becoming an ORRA-approved dealer...
