Dolf don't close your eyes to roof racks for other cars. The Aluminium roof racks sold by the big distributors all have seperate feet that a DIYer like yourself can easily be modify to fit.

For example my roofrack came off a Disco 2, I just had to saw the feet shorter and drill some new holes.

I have found that if you ask for something to fit a Patrol, you get one of two responses:
1) They roll their eyes and say "sorry", or
2) They jack the price up.

x 2 on Peter's comment.

I purchased a second hand Expedition rack from a LR Defender ! , took the feet off completely and im gonna order 6 new feet from Front Runner to mount on my custom Alu Canopy i made.

My mate just bought a LC 105 GX 4.2d and is looking for a rack, i also told him to consider LR racks form Disco's etc, as the market is saturated with those in comparrison to Patrol/Cruiser racks.

Stefan,

Jou guys must keep an eye out at the places that sell second-hand canopies, a number of them also sell roof racks second-hand.

I got a African Outback roof rack complete with a jerrycan holder off of a Disco 2 for R4k at a place in Centurion.

Dolf we built a steel-and-wood roofrack (using shutterboard) for a buddy of mine, and it wighs about twice as much per square meter as the Aluminium ones, so while it is not the best possible option, looking at the cost and if you don't have to carry too much on the roof it is still an option. In my opinion the biggest advantage of the purchased aluminium racks are the slots in the extrusions for attaching things.

In this regard I also prefer the Outback/African outback (it's the same thing) to the Frontrunner, because 1) it has slots in the edges as well as top and bottom (the frontrunner only has top and bottom) and 2) the slots accept standard weld nuts or at a pinch even standard hex nuts, whereas the Frontrunner needs special fasteners or modified nuts.
