Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I need to figure a way to get a 1000kms range out of our patrol? Has anybody managed to fit another 100 litres to their Y61? If so please post pics and references.

Hi Manie

Several guys on this forum have a maximum capacity of about 200l. A 140l stainless-steel tank is available to replace the main tank and a second tank of 60-65l can be fitted inside the chassis next to the propshaft. This should give you 900-1000km on the petrol Patrols, depending on how fast you drive? I beleive you can try Northern Off-road.

However, be warned that lots of guys on this forum have picked up leaks on this 140l tank.

My car has similar capacity but with mild-steel tanks, but unfortunately I do not know who made them. It may have been Silverton in Krugersdorp who are prepared to do custom work. I have not had any problems with the main tank, but my second tank is now sweating around one of the mounting points, so will have to be removed and repaired shortly.

I had my standard tank replaced by a 140l tank by Safari Centre. There was a whole debate about tanks on the forum at the time and I was very scheptical before deciding. They guys assured me however that I won't have any problems. Will have to wait and see....!

With the 140l plus the subtank's 30 odd liters I manage about 840km. Because of the 285/75/16's I was told that my distance will under read by about 7%. Add another 50 km actual distance. I also found that when the vehicle is almost emty, starting to miss/hoes../proes...!, it took about 150l to fill up. Thus there was still about 20+ litres in the tank (+- 100km)

My car was at SAC last week for a service and they have managed to lower the pick-up in the tank so that I can try and get access to the last 20 odd liters. Will only be able to report on the improved range in about 800km.

@ G-Man - 2 tanks version so 130L onboard - Gives me 550kms max @ any speed.
I have tried at 40k/hr in Kruger, or at 120 on the highway, same difference.

I would prefer a mild steel / 5mm alu tank, because stainless was never meant to be used for a fuel tank.
Burnco built me a 270L tank for my Land Cruiser, and that has withstood everything I could throw at it up to now.

I have had a look under the vehicle, and space is at a premium down there.

I thought of that, but an extra 90kgs on the roof with a RT tent and other stuff might be a bit rough?
Any chance that the 140L excel tank can be "fixed" before installation? They should know by now where the problem areas are?
