Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hi there.

I want to buy a rooftop tent and I don't mind driving with it when I'm on the way to my camping site or when I'm out there on one of my vacation or weekend adventures. Nevertheless and cause I don't have the chance to spend every weekend on the trail, I wouldn't like to drive around town with my rooftoptent on.

Is there a way you could just plug it on and off the rack?

Is it easier/faster/safer to just take off the rack (along with the tent) whenever you're around town?

I know it's kind of a dumb question but someone could have come up with a fancy plug in mechanism for this...

Rather buy a OZ tent or a turbo pitch from 360deg.

You can mount a rooftop tent onto load bars that are gutter mounted, so they are easily removed.The problem is that the tents are quite heavy and dificult to lift off the roof. If you can devise a lift of some sort in your garage then its no problem.

Thanks but I have already 2 very cool tents that you can mount in 2''. I use them only for the beach.

When you go into the bush or when it rains, however, you don't feel as comfortable as if you were on top of your Troll.

Let's say I had a very high ceiling in my garage and let's say I'd fix a pulley there with some hooks to lift the rack or tent. Would it be possible for me to get it done? Would I have to unscrew all the load bars attached to the gutters?

After research I am currently looking at a Hannibal Impi which is a hard shell fiberglass type which I also want to remove as won't fit into my garage due to clearance.

Sadly from what I have looked at it will also need to be removed by undoing the load bars from gutters, the one I saw was removed and hanging with a simple single pulley system. Owner reckoned it is a bit of a job to put on and needs two people due to weight but then I suppose it is not an every day occurrence.

The Impi is a lot more aero dynamic than standard roof top tents and their covers, also apparently sets up a bit easier including having the added protection of a solid cover keeping rain and dirt out. Aim to buy mine in the new year to prep for our first trip.

Dis PRESIES wat ek ook nodig het - MAAR as die gutters oppi dak iws kan ek nie inry om dit gaan op 'hoist' nie ... ek dink ek moet nou 'n "slide' bou - dan die dakrak laat afgly inni graats in en dal opkatrol.
