GQ Coil Springs

After many trials and tribulations I have come to the conclusion that you cannot totally eliminate propshaft vibration on a lifted swb patrol without spending lots of money on double cardan joints and adjustable control arms. The rear propshaft is just too short. I managed to eliminate 90% of the vibrations but the remaining 10% annoy me to no end. I have decided to replace my springs with standard ones so the 3-4 inch lift springs are currently up for sale. I will consider offers of R1000 for all four. They will work really well on a lwb gq. Cheers Adrian. PS. Anybody know who sells Dobinson springs in JHB?

Swak bru, i was looking forward to seeing that beast up high, but to be honest, on the SWB you'd never need that hight, cause the breakover is so good already due to the wheel base. The 50mm lift and maybe a 35mm body lift should be heaps enough to transform that thing, and you wont have any probs and can still run 33's no worries.

Are the GQ front springs the same as the GU front springs? Was thinking about going up to 3-4" on my front and then throwing on some extended shackles at the back of mine to match the hight.

Agreed. On a SWB I would think 2" is enough for anyone.

Seemingly you cannot buy standard lift springs from the likes of OME, Ironman, Dobinson or TJM. My concern is that a 2" lift invaribly ends up being a 3" lift on a swb vehicle especially at the rear where I have the problem. I have spoken to a couple of garages to get old springs but they either throw them away or the owners take them away. Anybody with a set at home that they are willing to part with? Preferbly from a GQ as the GU have slightlÿ heavier duty springs. Cheers Adrian

Adriaan, I have a set of OME's for you that came out of my GQ, seems standard height.
I am currently in CT, driving to JHB on Thursday next week.
The springs are in CPT. Lets talk about yours.

Thanks Abri, that sounds great. I'll send you a PM early next week. Save me the effort of having a set made by a local spring manufacturer. Cheers Adrian

I'm a bit blonde regarding the spring set up on my 1999 GU 4.2 diesel. The shocks are OME Nitro something ( I can't see it too clear... ok truth is I haven't looked at it that closely yet). As far as I know, OME coils are yellow. My coils on the Patrol are black. Are these the standard coils?

I want to get a little extra height as the TJM bullbar and big winch I have on now I think is causing the front to dip a bit in front. If you want to swap coils, I'd be interested too.

Cedric, OME coils are black, if you look closely you should find a little sticker on the coils with the part number.

I've got to do front brake pads soon....so I'll give them the once over to see if I can find the sticker with the part number. Thanks
