Hi all, I have just made myself replicas of Roorkhee chairs from a book I ordered from the USA." British Campaign Furniture,Elegance under Canvas "
This chairs was designed by the British Army Engineering Corps stationed in Roorkhee in India during the Asian Campaign in the 1880's. It was issued to Captains and higher ranks during the Anglo Boer war and was used right up to WW2. Also standard issue to all colonialist on Safari in Africa.
I made it because all the chairs I use break after 12 mths use , not to mention the Campmaster spider chairs that last for 3 mths.
It folds in a bag and weight approx 8 to 10 kg .
Melvill & Moon also makes it.
It sits so comfortable, the backrest adjust to how deep you sit in the chair, if you sit right to the back its quite upright and the more fwd you move your bum the more the angle becomes bigger and reclines a bit, so much so I actually take a little nap in it.
Pse comment on them, would like to know what you guys think .

You must know your stuff. What about us big boys 110kg+ ?

Thats why I made it , I weight 110kg.Needed something sturdy, strong and you know what it looks swell too.
Will keep you posted, trying to source canvas wholesale and found a company in JHB Cedarbrook, that can suplly rolls of 50m x 1.8m . Which will make it affordable.Also check out this site http://www.fmallen.com under vintage, go to Roorkhee chair,what a chair!!!!
Also a nice field kitchen is on http://www.blueskykitchen.com approx size of a Engel 40 lt freezer. I made some for a Kalahari trip, works very nice per family of 4 , if you do a trail only by vehicle. Check pic on Nossob Trail

Koos, I bought canvas last week from Hayfordtraders in Midrand to make my awning and paid R55 excl for 400gr/m ripstop canvas.
This was cut price and only about R5 per meter more than if you buy per roll of 50 meters.

Looks like we have some real talent on this forum now.

The latest in leather and Canvas.
I have now got the design copied correctly and it sits lekker comfy.

I am still trying to cut the cost but the leather one with solid rose wood works out to expensive.
