I have just returned from a week long trip to the Kruger Nat Park.
We camped at Malelane Camp, not the best, a lot of light pollution from Malelane town, and noise from traffic on highway. But beggars cant be choosers , its all I could get.Its a nice transit camp site , when you arrive or leave for a night or 2 .
Still nothing as nice as Balule. Off course I had a neighbour with floodlights again, I hate electrified campsites with a passion
But now the gameviewing
I concentarted on the gravel roads between the camp toward lower Sabie and Croc Bridge to the East, mainly the Biyamiti route. Reason for this , minimum traffic.People dont drive gravel roads.
Believe it or not , we had 9 sightings of Leopard, I think 3 of those were the same chap. All from 3 m to approx 50m away.
We saw a big pride of Lion of 16 individuals with 3 big male Lion, and 3 other seperate sightings of lionesses on the move.
Saw Black Rhino twice,
Caracal chasing plovers , and a Civet crossing the road.
A Black Mamba of approx 2.5m
And than a first for us, Tiger fish at the lower Sabie bridge, ie. one of the big 6. They were swimming below the bridge.
Cheetah near Afsaal. We also never seen so many Brown hooded Parrots before , everyday
On the night of the semi final between Holland and Urugauy the Parks board arrived with a gameviewing vehicle , and offered us a gamedrive for 9km to Berg en Dal to watch the game .They had a bigscreen TV with a massive sound sytem and a make shift cash bar. On this trip we saw a very powerfull built LEOPARD , came back at midnight. Thanks SA Nat parks
