Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hi again!

The rubber part that fits over the underside of the wheel arches.. I assume is to protect the engine bay from flying debri etc?

On my patrol, when they fitted the intercooler they clearly removed the rubber. That work, together with age and natural perishing, has resulted in a flimsy fit, which I have "secured" with cable ties, but more of a temporary solution.

How critical is the protection offered by the rubber? Nissan SA quoted my R1500 to replace! Surely a part like this can be sourced or custom made, although I'm not sure were and by who?

Just get yourself a few square metres of thin rubber (you can get this at places that sell Twine/rope/canvas/shade-cloth bla bla bla) and just take your old stuff off, draw the template, and cut out. Should be easy and cheap.

David , I replaced mine. Bought 'rubber insertion' from a place called Belting Supplies, they sell you sheets of 2 x 1m .You can get it in different thicknesses.
I cut it out with a Stanley knife , drilled the holes and also fitted new of those grommets as well. Which is available from the spare part dealers like Midas, Autozone ect ect.
Much much cheaper.
