Engine : 4.5-litre, 24-valve in-line six cylinder
Power : 145 kW at 4400 rpm
Performance : 0-100 km/h in 14.9 sec
Fuel economy : 18.0 l/100 km (average)

Dit is nou volgens die Ausies:

Die enigste ander raad is : Kry vir jou 'n 4.8 hulle het meer krag en het nie 'n vonkverdeler nie...

Those figures are about right, except the 24 valve thing, of course; the TB45E is as old school as they come and has only 12 valves...

Thanks Gerrit - I just copied it from the link.

I now wonder if the Ausies ever got a 24 valve 4.5 as it should be possible with a 4.8 head?

No, David, I think the 24 valve is just a typo (the Toyota 1FZ-F and 1FZ-FE motors used in the 80 and 100 Series Land Cruisers are 4.5 liter 24 valve DOHC motors). The power output is definitely for the 12 valve TB45E:
145 kW @ 4400 rpm
350 Nm @ 3600 rpm).

I don't think a 24 valve version of the TB45E exists. The only other variant of this motor that I am aware of, is the carb fed TB45S, which developed 137 kW and was sold in some Middle Eastern markets (but never in Aussie or Europe).

The Kw is 150!

Check the distributer at night - in total darkness - and you will see if it is cracked. It will look like lightning coming from the distributer.

Herrie, all the brochures and references that I have been able to find from various sources all over the globe state that the nett power of the TB45E is 145 kW @ 4400 rpm.

Herrie drove his Patrol so hard the Patrol eventually admitted that it had 150Kw under the bonnet :rolling:

What is interesting, is that some of the Middle Eastern Nissan brochures quote the SAE gross power (i.e. power of the engine when it does not have to power any of its ancillary systems, such as the cooling fan, water pump, alternator) of the TB45E. This yields the very impressive, but rather irrelevant power figure of 171 kW :surprised:  .

Hello, they claim 145kw but if a 4.5 make 130kw it is a strong enjine. :surprised: In my motor experience dynoing cars I have never seen a 4.5 that make the power they claim.
For what its worth: The 4.8 make very close to what the book claim, the 4.2 petrol are close too,as the 4.2 diesel.Nissan's 4.2 diesel turbo are a huge disappointment, the claim of power are spot on,but it only make 2kw more than the normal asperated 4.2,they have a couple of nm more but its not mutch.
My 4.2 made the same power that nissan's turbo made before I fitted my turbo.I had less torque yes but there were no turbo,Now my car sing a different song and it is over a year now and is still going strong.
Sorry I am off the mark here, the 3.0 make spot on power allso,it is only the 4.5 that are not close to what they claim.
Cheers
