Yes Len, with 12mm ply with heavy duty ball bearing runners, only 2 drawers approx 200mm deep , my engel freezer i mount on top secured with bottle screw slips.I also in my GQ had a net under the ceiling at the back you I stored all the families jackets , jerseys hat ect , work wonders.
I also made my dual bat system myself, very easy.

Len re. the drawer sorry they 200mm high and about a meter long or deep.
I make all my equipment self. Get all my tips from forums around the world.
Also fitted an EGT gauge in my 3.0 d , by going to instrumentation guys in Dbn and sourced the gauge and thermo couple.
I can only insist you guys by giving advise on making stuff out of wood ect , and keeping a vehicle in good shape

Check out this nice mod utilizing the space between the body and the rear side panels:

Should work quite nicely in the GU since it has a wider body/wheel arches.
