Filling from a Jerrycan?

How do you add petrol from a Jerrycan to the Patrol?

I was checking out my new jerrycans this weekend when I noticed that I can not add petrol straight from a jerrycan.

My patrol is fitted with a little flap wich only allows only the diameter of a petrol pump tube. The metal nozzles which fit onto a jerrycan is too big...

My idea now is to either use a plastic funnel with a flexable spout or to leave the jerrycans on the roof and to syphon the petrol out with a hose.

So what do you guys do?

David,

There are various sizes of Jerry-can nozzles available. If I remember correct, Outdoor Warehouse stock the petrol shape & size.

The "juggle pipe" syphon method with the can remaining on the roofrack works best for me in the bush. No heavy lifting.

Go the siphon route. It's less backbreaking than the spout/funnel route. You get a jiggler siphon nowadays which has a spring-loaded marble that will take care of the siphoning for you (after a quick shake or 3). Before refuelling from jerry cans (actually before I even open the jerry cans) I get the following ready to clean-up afterwards - a small diesel stain anywhere and the smell lingers forever:

1. hand cleaner
2. water
3. wet wipes/toilet roll/lappie.

Also keep the plastic 'bakkie' the siphon comes in so you have somewhere to store it afterwards.

Looks like it's time to invest in one of those juggler syphon's :salute:

I didn't know the spouts come in differnt sizes so I must have taken a standard (diesel?) size when I bought the jerrycans.

Thanks for the feedback.
