Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

When I fill the reservoir on my GQ, the water gets syphoned through the rear jets, until the tank in the engine bay is completely drained. This becomes a problem when you want to wash your windshield.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Is this not the same effect than sucking fuel out of a tank? In other words...pipe in fuel tank via the cap, suck for flow, lower the pipe outlet below the inlet and wha-la...fuel runs all by itself!

Speculation......Full water reservoir, water pump engaged (same as a mouth sucking on the pipe), water flow through all the jets because of pump preasure, water pump turned of, preasure stops, for what ever reason the lowest jet remains lower than the pipe inlet in the reservoir...whal-la...water runs all by itself! Does this happens when only certain window washer jets (rear or front) is used AND when the vehicle is parked or in motion OR parked at an angle which results in the reservoir to be elevated higher than normal?

My gat-so-meter tells me the simplicity of gravity and hydrological characteristics is playing games with the mighty Patrol. Hopefully the answer is a very simple one!

Maybe a one way valve will add enough resistance for the siphon effect not to happen.

Came to the same conclusion this morning on the way to work. As long as the NRV has a bit of resistance ie enough to withstand the pressure of a full tank of water.

Will try and report back.

I have not noticed this on the rear jet, but I know when I am tackling a serious downhill because the water runs out of the bonnet jets. Which is strange because the bonnet vents cannot possibly be lower than the washer bottle on a downhill unless I have my anti-gravity switched on and am driving upside down?

But I do beleive a spring-loaded one-way valve should solve the problem. Perhaps you can try one intended for the vacuum system? Remember to check the flow direction, I think you may need to install it "wrong way round"?
