I cannot believe that Nissan SA are so dumb as to drop the Patrol here. So Toyota wins, cause Nissan cannot get their sales targets. I wonder who runs their marketing department?.... or is there even a marketing department.... or did they even think to maybe have a marketing department.... I hang my head in shame

I think we're all to blame. If we don't buy it, they will stop selling it. :mytwocents:

The Y62 has been here for years, and almost nobody bought it. Last I heard they sold more Ferraris in a month than Patrols! Similar story with the new Z that they did not even consider bringing in due to poor sales in that segment. Companies aren't charities - if nobody buys their product they'll simply pull it from the market and offer another product that does sell.

But another angle is that they may be considering the Y63 that's just launched?

That's Nissan SA pretty useless. Would have been great if they have launched the warrior version to make it bit more attractive while we wait for Y63

But then again SA 4X4 is a diesel (Toyota) market, although the fuel consumption of Y62 is in par with Cruiser V8?

Nissan SA has never known how to market a product. They have always misread the market. It's like they are almost not alive or operating on some autopilot.

They had the Datsun 1600/1800 sss's with which they had almost market domination and they let it slip.

They kept the Nissan 1200 up for years with no updates except for installing a bored/stroked version of the same engine. Opel and Ford and Mazda all sized them up. And then they introduced the NP200 which has Eastern pre-Berlin wall credentials from Dacia morphed out of vintaged/liscensed outdated economy Renaults. Remember we had a short spell of Dacia bakkies here at one time.

The Safari was introduced around 1983 and round about 86/87 discontinued only to be re-introduced around 88. No diesel option was ever offered on these yet in Aus and everywhere else you could find them. Then they introduced the Patrol TD42's. Also not well marketed and underpowered compared to L/Cr spec but in my view a better product. I have both.

The latest Patrol bakkie was also discontinued a couple of years ago without nobody even knowing. The 3.0ZDi diesel they decided to install in it was a dismal failure...yet L/Cruiser stuck to their utterly reliable 1HZ diesel engine of yore. And then maybe a last thought...why did they not bring it in 4.8lit form as in the Arab states where they are highly regarded?

There product has always been top line but they could not read the room...their downfall was marketing.

I fully agree with the sentiment here. Nissan has been in decline for years now with their marketing and product selection.

Look at what they have available now - Navara, Xtrail, and Magnite. There is no Halo model, no aspirational model. South africans buy with their hearts more than their heads, and there is no car in the line up for them to love. No GTR, no 400Z, no Patrol...... Even looking at the bakkie segment - Ford Raptor, Toyota GR, Isuzu AT35. What does Nissan have to compete? The Pro4x - a standard bakkie with some stickers...... It's embarrasing really.

Even the Y62 should have been brought in with a lower luxury specification, making it more affordable. They did this in Aus, why not here?
