Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Good morning!

We have the problem that the guy at the garage put in diesel instead of petrol when my wife fueled up the car.
Unfortunately I only saw this when we refueled again. So we basically had about 60l of diesel in the 135l full tank capacity (so about 45% diesel) and used most of the tank.

I only recognized a higher coolant temperature than usually, nothing else. The engine just worked but I didn't use much power.

My question now is: what would you exchange? Oil? Oil filter? Petrol filter? Spark plugs?

I am really wondering about how good the engine worked, I wouldn't have realized it if I hadn't seen the fuel station slip after refueling again.

I think what's done is done.
I would change the fuel filter but I don't think you need to change anything else.

Diesel in a petrol vehicle is not a problem, other than bad combustion and poor performance, until it is rectified. Drain fuel tank and refill with petrol and all will be OK.

Petrol in a diesel vehicle could lead to disaster after 100 to 150km, mainly due to different combustion processes and lack of proper diesel pump and injector lubrication.

All of course depends on the ratio of the mix...... the higher the percentage of the incorrect fuel the more noticeable and, in a diesel vehicle, the higher the probability of severe problems and likelihood of damage.

Keep on filling up with petrol to dilute the diesel and you'll be fine as long as it is still running. The diesel will in fact help lube the valves but MIGHT add some carbon deposits, so I'd consider new plugs at some stage.

I have noticed, most of the petrol attenders at the fuel station will go for diesel considering the vehicle size. So got one of these sticker and I don't have to keep an eye on them...

I went down this road before several years ago. I always check what the pomp joggies are doing since then.

That is exactly what happened.
I also always check the fueling guys and the hose in their hands, my wife not until this occurence.

I‘ll keep you posted if anything detrimental happens to the engine in the next time. Thanks for all your input.
Actually for the wrong diesel engine even only starting on petrol can kill it. The high pressure pump is lubricated by diesel and petrol just doesn‘t lubricate.
A modern common rail diesel might suffer cost of about ZAR 100000 if you are unlucky. So if it happens the other way around (fuel petrol in a diesel car) DON‘T EVEN START IT!
