What's the goto or who is the goto regarding changing the fake wooden trim in the vehicle?

Vinyl wrap maybe?

Certainly something to look into. I thought there may be a kit replacement available.

Will investigate vinyl as well.

Otherwise maybe try with Dawid Volschenk if he has the silver trim from the diesel?

I vinyl wrapped mine in matt black. Turned out pretty good... far better than that wood trim.

I have a 2008 3.0Tdi Y61 GL and after about 8 or 10 years, the silver paint was wearing through on the arm rests and the silver painted (body colour matched as standard) rear view mirror were badly chipped and scratched from my safaris into the African bush.

I bought a sheet of carbon fibre patterned silver stick on vinyl to wrap it myself. It did not turn out exactly as I would have liked as that material would not stretch as I had envisaged. The armrests turned out so-so, but the mirrors turned out disastrous. Immediately after fitting it the the mirrors and heating, stretching and sticking it down, it looked great.

The next morning all the edges started pulling loose where it was stretched around the bends. The vinyl was too ridged to stay bent, the glue stayed on the back of the mirror, but the vinyl wanted to go back to its original flat state. It could also have been that the vinyl was perhaps old and had gone hard, who knows?

From these pictures of Ian G's vehicle, maybe I should remove my previous attempt and go the plain matt black vinyl route as well....
