You wouldn't be able to put the battery where I have it as your fridge is a lot bigger than mine.
I went very simple as we normally tow an offroad camper so I don't need a lot of packing space.
It does get tedious when you have to keep unpacking ammo boxes to get to stuff, but it is very light....

I would give it lots of thought before making changes
Thanks for the reply and the pics!

I was thinking of putting the battery behind the ammo crates . Maybe also in a battery box , with my own panel on it. I tell you the current lack of space with the front runner drawer system and my battery is driving me insane . Every year (especially in the letaba with these nice little ditches in the sand) on the river trip the stupid battery moves cause there’s not enough space for a bracket. I seriously need some kind of solution . And that stacked drawer system from front runner costs a crap load
My compressor lives in a battery box behind the ammo boxes, can still fit two ammo boxes in there.
Cheers, Gareth
I think, therefore I am........ I think?!?!?!

Hi.

Image

I've got one of these. Just fits. Actually, had to shave the carpet on the wood top so that the barn doors close.

My battery box and chargers, etc are mounted onto it, on the right side. However, I put a battery together with those 100ah/3.2v lithium cells. So a ~12v pack ends up being quite slim.

The space left on the left side of the box is ample for wood, bags. And I like having the top low enough so I can still see out the rear and/or use it as a platform for stuff when we're camping.

It holds a 90L fridge.

It is quite difficult to get in and out though, so I leave it in most of the time now. It's heavy.

And compressor is mounted on the right side too, below the charger.

I'll just send a picture later when I get a chance.

If the biggest problem is the battery moving, then I reckon that would be fairly easy to sort out.

As I said before, I hate ammo crates. Because the thing I want is almost always in the back, bottom one. And sometimes I don't know that in advance either. So it's a huge effort to find anything. That's why I like drawers. I can search any one of my drawers without having to un-pack anything else, except my table which lives behind my drawers.

But if you want to change the whole system, I'm not going to stand in your way.

Why not keep the drawers as they are but just fix the battery outside on top of the drawers, probably right up against the rear seats? Then put your compressor in the hole that the battery left and punch a hole in the front to feed the hose through.

However, like Peter says, if the problem is primarily a shifting battery then some bracketing to hold it in place better sounds the most straightforward.

I have mixed feelings about ammo boxes. My wife likes them for prepping. But when I'm looking for something, it's always in the last box I look. Those frontrunner drawers that I have also don't allow you to open up an ammo box in the back before taking the one in front of it out first... fixable but very suboptimal as-is.

Hi Izak, This is my storage solution and works pretty well for me. I am using the NL battery box and 50 l water storage at the back. I just had to rebuild the bottom draw as the previous material I used wasn't strong. So I am in a position to take them apart for pics. Material I used this time are 18mm shutter ply for the outer frame and 12mm marine play for draws, shelf's and fridge enclosure.

Hope this will give you some ideas. I have an ARB compressor mounted in the engine bay.

Love your setup! Is that the barrier from Taurus that I see there? To have a water tank inside ….pure bliss, not like the ocean I carry on the roof!
