ricster wrote:from hat you are saying here, I think your battery and plugs are fine, but have a silly question..... Do you let the glow plugs warm up sufficiently. On mine as soon as the ignition hits the "on" position the glowplugs start heating up, then a few seconds later there is a click. Then a second or 2 later there is a click again and another about 3 seconds later, then again after about 1 or 2 seconds another click and after about 3 seconds another click. So basically there are 3 cycles that take place. the plugs hit a hot phase, then a not so hot phase, then hot again then not so hot, then hot again then back to not so hot. I usually start mine on the second or third cycle depending on how cold the outside temperature is. If you swing the engine over and it doesn't start, you should hear the 3 click cycles start over again.
The glow plugs stay on "not so hot" cycle till the water temp reaches 50 deg C, then switch off completely. In summer months I count to 3 once the ignition in on "ON" and then my Iron Maiden starts first time.
I realised that if i wait about 3 seconds after the glowplug indicator light goes off, I hear a click. If I turn the key after hearing this click, the engine cranks up immediately everytime.
So although I am not sure that I hear 3 clicks, think you made a good point to wait a bit longer for the glowplugs to warm up properly. Thanks

Russ, sorry if I have not been clear enough, but the 4.8 points will not fit on your car.
The correct mounting holes are not present. One could drill them, but inserting nuts will be more tricky. Not impossible, but might take more modification than you will be comfortable with.
If you want, I could send you a drawing of the ones I make, which will fit your car.

Something like this?

Peter Connan wrote:Therefore, the 4.8's standard recovery points should fit. They use the same bolt holes that hold the plate under the radiator. You can buy them from Nissan for about R550 each, and I promise they are stronger than anything you can buy anywhere else.
Is this the standard recovery point(hook)?

Hey Pete. if the 4.8 ones are like the ones in SJC's last pic, then they will fit, as my patrol has the two captive nut under the chassis in the same spot. Thoughts?
SJC: The Yellow points are similar to what i'm keen on aswell. Very popular in Australia those kinda recovery points.
However, the 4.8 ones seem very useful as there is no need for a shackle, which also makes it safer.

SJC, that is the 4.8 recovery point. I presume that's a new one you just bought, looking at how clean it is?
Yes, the yellow one is somewhat similar to the one I make, except that mine is esigned to work in conjunction with the bash plate I make, so it's not exactly like that.
Russ, that's quite interesting, so there seems to be another chassis variation I don't know about. I also like the idea of not needing shackles.

Hi guys.
My 04 3.0Di has the same recovery point as the one in the last pic. I will take a pic, thought of it as it sounded like the one Peter described but then I forgot to take a pic. I thought of getting one more for the left side as well.

Installed the rear wheel spacers yesterday. (Got them from 4x4direct.co.za)
You can see on the 1st pic how much the wheels were rubbing prior to fitting them, this was mainly at cross axles and not during normal driving. I tested the spacers this morning with tryres fully inflated and absolutely no rubbing anymore.
