When you get to SAC ask to speak to Gerhard. He has been looking after my 4.2 diesel with a safari turbo and inter cooler for the last 11 years. They will tube it for reliability, but with regard to the gets, which probe did you fit. The K or J Unit? This needs to be set on the madman when installing. I have a new J probe that reads for more accurately and my gets never see more than 420 and that is going up Rigel heading south towing my trailer and foot flat.


As with the exhaust, don,t fit any silencers. The turbo keeps the exhaust sounding like a truck. I had mine done about two years ago and it sounds sweet.

I got the K-type probe but have not checked the settings....... this will be done next time I am in the Patrol

Your EGT is running very low indeed. I actually managed to get mine up to 406 when I wet out for lunch, but I'm sure Ill get it up to 500 when towing something. I rushed to get my EGT set up to compare the readings before and after the new exhaust. Oh and TNT quoted me R3,000 for the system including a silencer, so should be a tad cheaper when I ask them to leave the silencer out. I also prefer the 6 cyl diesel to be heard!!

TNT refused to put a straight through, or should I say remove all my silencers and fill in the gap with a piece of 3" pipe, saying that it will be too noisy, which it clearly isn't , so.......you MUST INSIST that they do a straight through 3"pipe. They may have changed their views since they took out my middle silencer ( was about 3 years ago )

I think I am actually going to phone them on Monday and make sure they agree to not put in any silencers...... Don't want to start a fight when I am there

Ek het vanmiddag n polo ingesleep vanaf Jhb na my huos in PTA en ek moet se die Patrol het hom baie mooi gedra. Hy het amper nie eers die vrag gevoel nie en ek het hom aspris laat werk teen die opdraandes en die EGT se hoogste lesing was 427. Die heat guage het ook nie eers ge roer nie

Ok I have done some more things on my Patrol since my last post.

I have fitted a 76mm straight exhaust which really makes the engine sound nice. It also made a bit of an improvement on the performance as well
I have also adjusted the fuel on the pump a little bit. I gave it about a half a turn richer and this made a HUGE difference. The turbo spools up a lot faster and power is very good.

The next thing I want to look at is the visco as I suspect mine is not functioning properly. It is constantly "stiff". it turns very hard at any temperature, when I start it in the morning or when the vehicle is up to normal temp..... makes no difference. This of course will rob me of fuel and performance and I want to change it as soon as possible

I have still not done a dyno on it and still plan to do one soon

So far I have done around 2,000km and everything is working perfect. I have done the Iconic challenge at At se Gat on 29/06/2014 and it ran without any issues. EGT was very very low (didn't even reach 200)
