I fitted Ironman performance coils with gas shocks. The difference from when I bought the vehicle with original Nissan coils & shocks is amazing - but then she had sagged in front and was bottoming out. It would be great to feel the difference between the "cheaper" Ironman and the considerably more expensive OME's and TJM's just to see how much better they really feel (or don't)!!

if i take yopu on the axact same road with similar vehicles and i blindfold you - one fitted wit the expensive susp and the other wit Ironman, you would not be able to tell the difference [that is if you don't peek]
on the smaller 4x4's like Hardbody and such, I only can commend Camil - our "new" old 2nd hand Hardbody already has Camils on [and the Revolver Shackles was fitted this morning there at Willie se Wild Africa 4x4.]
Daar staan paar Micky Thompsons wat ek nie sal omgee om onner Skankwan se gat te druk nie ...

Ja, from my experience I think I would just qualify that by saying that this is the case when both sets are brand new. I have found that you do get what you pay for.....I was extatic with the performance of the Iron Man kit when I fitted it to my Sani, however my enthusiasm for the brand diminished considerably when the shocks only lasted 25 000km. The leaf spirngs that were fitted, I had absolutely no problem with. You pay more for OME, but the OME shocks on my patrol have done over 70 000km, and amazingly still feel good. So, you pay more up front for the "expensive" brands, but one must also bear the "cost per km" in mind when making purchases!!

I have fitted Ironman with nitrogas shocks about two years ago (-+25000 km's) and they are doing the job for me. When chatting to the guys at LA Sport though, I mentioned that the ride on corriguations was a little harsh, and they immediately suggested TJM XGS shocks even as opposed to OME's the coils, they recon are fine. Is there really such a difference in the shocks alone? Also why is it that Ironman seems to be so unpopular - granted, the price is about half of XGS & OME does it mean that they are so inferior in performance & quality??

Has anyone tried the EFS suspension from Aus and if so what are your feelings on it ?

The suspension is apparently made by the origional guys that made OME under licence.

I am changing my suspension as i seem to have a mix and match, Ironman Coils and TJM shocks with the front shocks being for a defender according to the numbering
and the back shocks numbering being older than the front. So without knowing what age my luckypacket is I am going to change the lot.

Hi Steven,

Could I please take over your old suspension (the Ironman/TJM mix-n-match) when you change to something new?

My '99 Y61 is still running on OEM coils & shocks, but I can't really afford the price of OME/TJM replacements.

I will send you a PM.

Regards

Gerrit

Hi Guys, love this site am a newbie Patrol man, previously a landcruiser fanatic, well enough rambling but i have an issue with my front suspension, I had assume that the Patrols ride comfort is second to none but iam experiencing a nagging problem, it seems to me that the front suspension bounces around to bit too much, maybe i have the wrong shocks on, maybe the ones fitted by the previous owner are to short and restrict the travel, have spoken to a mech and he says that i should try the defender front shocks as they have a long play.

i await your learned feedback

What shocks do you have on now? Any lift or other mods? How old are the shocks? What are you using your vehicle for? Is your bouncing problem more an issue on or off-road?

Anyway, I don't think I'd ever heard the words "Patrol" and "ride comfort" used together in one sentence before. Unless you count "The Patrol is crap for ride comfort!" or "This thing rides like a city bus!"

Mrowka - sorry boet, but I totally disagree on the ride comfort - even swambo says the 'trol is the most comfy car we've had on long distance cruises and tours.

Gents,

I have had both OME and TJM on my Troll. In my case OME offers a harder ride than the TJM, but both offer the same capabilitys. These would be the only two I would consider.

Currently I have 90mm gold Edition shocks(lond travel) + coils + panhard rods, 3.5 deg caster correction and 100mm drop links for the anti sway bar.
