RGM's work is good. But I still say that putting a K&N filter in a machine used in dusty conditions is a very poor idea. I eventually threw my Land Rover's K&N filter kit away.

So no cleaning required in between services, with lots of dirt exposure in between.
If that is the case then I cannot fault it. My opinion is not based on personal experience.

Motor manufacturers spend vast amounts of money improving the efficiency and power output of their engines. Yet as far as I know, you won't find a K&N (or anything like it) recommended or fitted by any mainstream automotive manufacturer, whether you're talking VW, Mercedes, Nissan or Ferrari and much less for any serious 4WD. Yet you'd think they'd do it if it was a sensible, safe and reliable route to performance improvement. And its not because they want to sell you filters (though they probably do), because if that was the case they wouldn't be trying to extend service intervals.
For example, I own an AMG with a twin scroll supercharger and separate twin air filter boxes (one for each cylinder bank) where MB have taken the time and trouble to have long air intakes right behind the grill to ensure that cool air is drawn into the motor. They even built in an inter-cooler - on a supercharged, not turbocharged - engine. But its a standard high quality paper filter.
K&N has been around for many decades. But can you show me a single major automotive manufacturer endorsement? Just one? Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes, Ford? If they exist, I haven't seen them yet.
In the right application, K&N can be useful. But you won't be giving me one for free. I'm just not that desperate for a few extra horses of power.

One of the main reasons for going for a re-usable filter is extra air. So if you are designing a car from the ground up your filter boxes are designed to handle the air with the simple cheaper paper filters. Now you slap on a supercharger then you need much more air, with space constraints the easiest solution is a high flow filter.
I would not recommend that anyone change their filter element out for a high flow filter. As mentioned previously you will not see much gain because your filter box is designed to handle the correct amount of air. Your bottle necks are most likely elsewhere, so switching to a high flow filter will mean more maintenance, most likely no extra gain.

Superchargers suck! You really do need a lot more airflow! But your standard setup should manage just fine with the factory filter.

The supercharger needs for fuel than the standard set up can supply, hence the extra fuel pump. It is safe to assume the stand setup cannot supply enough air iether.

Steve i really hope you can make the duine trip next year ....frans is coming faan will be there tommie wil have his turbo job done we can have some serious drag races on the pans .....mabe iam going with my koolstoof and my 4.8 ....iam busy getting some tv coverage for that event .
We are looking at a big one ....mabe we can put the supercharger against the turbo and see what happens

On those long slightly undulating straight roads. Once the engine is properly hot it'll happily constantly run 170 - 180 clock speed. Happier at 140 - 160 but it'll give what you ask. It will even run 200 with no major stress.
