well....
This is a perfect example of a biased test. They couldn't have done it better if ARB paid them. Oh, and 4" of extra flex on the LSD-equipped car would have had it climb that hill almost as easily as the ARB-equipped one.

From what I could tell, it seemed to me that the following was the same:
a) The suspension lift (they seemed all three to me to be the same)
b) The tyres (it seemed all to be All terrain)
c) The tyre pressure (at least the presenter confirmed this, although it would in theory be possible to cheat)
d) The same engines
e) The speed/momentum
f) The torque with which they were driven up die obstacles.

What was different:
The car with ARB lockers had a bulbar.

What did I miss?
Besides the fact that (and I agree), a suspension lift could have been just as effective in improving the car's capability.

This was most definitely an informercial and I do not think ARB would have gotten this without paying for it.

The obstacle was chosen to play to the strengths of a locker when compared to the other option presented.

Let them tow heavy trailers in thick, relatively level sand on a twisty track, and the results may have been different.

And to add, your driving style will be different when driving a vehicke without a locker. You will not try to crawl up a sandy uneven incline.. Little bit more momentum all 3 prados would make it up that incline..

I am with you Alexander! - they also took the exact same way up the hill.

"As slow as possible and as fast as necessary" With a lot more momentum + a different "route" also the first 2 would have made it - but that was not what they were testing.

They could have done the test with Patrol open diffs, Patrol with LSD and Patrol with diff locks - different cars - same result.

My opinion: Patrol would make that obstacle at a crawl, and with open diffs. Because they have much more flex than those Prados.

This obstacle was dry, but requires more flex than the one in the previous video. The last car did the obstacle in 1st gear, 2 high, and diff un-locked. At the time it had OME shocks and no front anti-sway bar.

When it comes to uneven obstacles, you need either enough flex to keep the wheels on the ground, or lockers or excellent traction control. Up to a point, I believe flex is better, because the vehicle will be more stable.

In situations where the wheels are still firmly in contact with the ground, but traction is lost because the surface is too slippery, but other wheels are on a grippier surface, then LSD, T/C or lockers are more effective.

In situations where the ground is relatively level, but traction is limited because of slippery surfaces, and where the direction of travel needs to change, LSD or T/C will be better than lockers.

Horses for courses.

Traction Control, LSD and Diff Lock discussion aside -

Today I received the final quote for a 2016 ZD30CRD GL - as the quote is higher than what I expected (Yen 3.687.200) the consultant will also send a quote for a 2013 TD42 (non-turbo) with 0 km - stock in Yokohama.

For that price , it would still be economical to put an aftermarket turbo and intercooler on !!
