Irfaan, check this thread out before spending a lot of money on changing the whole viscous clutch:
http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/diy-modi ... eco-55192/
It shows you in great detail (it's even got photos so blokes like me can understand too!) how to recondition your current viscous clutch, down to the price & parts number for the two tubes of *cough*Toyota*cough silicone oil. It'll set you back only a fraction of the price of a complete new clutch unit...
PS: The photos show the fan bolted onto the wrong side of the viscous, make sure you put it back on in the front!

Re: Is the Doctor in – Engine Temperature?
On the topic of Servicing the Viscous clutch / replacing it, what is the best way to access and remove it?
Do I have to remove the radiator?
Or can i remove the fan cowling with a bit of magic?
any tricks ie removing belts. special shaped wrenches?
The radiator is new, but I did find a platic bag - or pieces of it in the AC cooler - but that was 2 months ago.... - I will blast water / air in reverse thru the ac cooler....
thanks for that tip!
Cheers

Re: Is the Doctor in – Engine Temperature?
Hello Irfaan
Remove the fan cowling (there should be two parts, remove the bottom part first.
The unbolt the viscous coupling from the front of the pulley. Do not remove or slacken the belts, if you do it becomes difficult to hold the pulley. If the pulley still turns, you will have to use two spanners, one on the nut you are loosening and one on the next one, then just keep going around untill they are all loose. All of these should be 10mm spanners/sockets.
A large socket (I think 27mm) to fit the bolt in the engine's bottom pulley might make the job easier, as you can then turn the engine to get the nut you are losening at the top.
Cheers
