AndriesS wrote:Suggestion before you take it to a mechanic that will destroy something in the process. disconnect battery, then try the silver button unlock method, also try locking unlocking with the silver button while you keep the lever opened. You should be able to remove some of the door trim with the door closed but you will need to remove the driver seat though.
Tried that...it didn't work.
AndriesS wrote:There is a Patrol (last checked in June) at Mazford spares in Pretoria West. I recall that the the driver side panel was still in tack and it might have a lock mechanism.
If push comes to shove, I'll ask someone in Pretoria to go and see if it is still there. Thanks for this info Andries.
AndriesS wrote:I hope jiggling both locking lever and opening lever with battery disconnected might help. As a matter of interest you can maybe give us an idea of the feel in resistance between the driver and passenger door when unlocking and or moving the opening lever. they should be the same, if the one move a lot more freely it could be as suggested that one of the "blou draad" wires disconneted.
The feeling/resistance on the malfunctioning lock is the same as on the passenger door when locked. The linkages seem to be intact and functioning.

As a last resort, maybe leave the battery on and remove the door's module (i.e. window winder and lock module), I.m not sure how things are powered but maybe there is some power and might jolt a thing if you lock unlock the manual thingy.

I have removed the door panel on the passenger door and went to school on how everything functions and have come to the conclusion that everything mechanically on the drivers door is working as it should. All the linkages, both from the in- and outside do what it is supposed to do....except unlock the door. I have fashioned a tool from "bloudraad" and was able to lift & move all the mechanisms on the lock, bar the electronic unit, without success.

It all boils down to something broken/not working within the lock itself which could or could not be the electronic unit.

Something positive achieved through my fiddling with the "bloudraad" tool is that the locking mechanism (silver lever/switch) on the inside now stays unlocked and does not immediately lock like it did previously.

Will give it a go Andries.

THE DOOR IS OPEN! :blonde:

I took the vehicle to a friend, who is more mechanically minded than me. He went to school on the passenger door, lowered a small mirror into the drivers door from the top and had a look at functioning of the linkages, and determined that the linkage of the outside door handle is not releasing far enough. It got stuck halfway when releasing. He got it unstuck with a bit of forceful coercing and was able to open the door. The door panel was removed as well as the lock. The lock was thoroughly cleaned (it was rather dirty and grimy) as well as all the linkages. Everything was lubricated and put back/together and is working like a charm.

Thank you Oom Mac & Andries for coming to my aid.
