Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I think a drawer system is a very personal thing, and me being the opinionated bugger I am, did not like any of the commercially available systems. My major reasons are that these systems in my opinion waste a heck of a lot of usable space in the name of being neat, and since I am trying to fit four people in my car, rather than just two, this was a no-no for me.

Thanks for this - after going through many posts on the web site - Peter is clearly someone who one should speak to and also buy good kit from. Unfortunately I live in Windhoek so the trip would have to be long and it would also mean many days off work - rather than being in the bush!

Now, for those who are interested: many people on this forum know me well enough by now to realize that, while my basic designs are both robust and innovative, my finishing leaves a lot to be desired. And while this is fine for things that fit underneath a vehicle, it's probably not an approach that will find wide favour whin it comes to interior fittings.

Therefore what I propose is to make up "drawer boxes", consisting of the basic frame for a six-box drawer system, including the six drawers, the teflon strips and the door/table. I could concievably get this to you for around R3k.

The owner can then DIY (or find somebody in his area to DIY) the fixings, add whatever other items he considers usefull, paint it, clad it etc.?

What height would you be looking at for the drawer boxes? Reason I would like to put my two 35L fridges on top of the drawer system(with slides).

Maybe a rough pic/drawing of what you plan?

Peter I read what you had to say about not wanting your fridge on top, but as you say it is a personal thing.

Would it be possible to make me one that does fit across the width of the Trolls boot, but then only two "boxes" high? (taking the size of your "boxes" into acount I should still have a minimum of six?)

I am bad with pictures, but also If I try and use my brain - if I remember correctly the rear seats of the Troll comes up with an -incline- so which means the bottem drawers might even fit three (from the rear door to the back of the seats) and then the second set will be as yours is currently with two boxes (so like a step in the back).

I can then fit my two 35L fridges on top of the drawer system using fridge slides?!

As for the tabe part I will then just have a long narrow table in front?

What is the weight capacity of these slides?

Will the framework be able to carry two fridges on top?

Can you fit the drawers next to each other?

Its my birthday next month so this will be a - To dad from dad pressie

Dirk, there is not room for three boxes one behind the other between the door and the seat. The seat does angle downwards, but not even half a box worth. Neither is there room for three boxes next to each other, which means that if the standard boxes were used like that, you would probably end up with very uneconomical space usage.

I could possibly come up with slightly differently shaped boxes to make a single layer the whole width of the floor, and will give this some thought.

The sliders are solid Teflon strips, and can effectively handle massive loads, but there is a proviso: a substantial portion of the drawer must remain inside the frame. However, that is one of the reasons I made my boxes relatively small: it's almost impossible to overload them (the possible exception is if you are smuggling gold bars).

The frame can certainly be made strong enough to carry the weight of your fridges. I can easily stand on mine.
