I had Tsessebe's compressions tested yesterday. Still within 95% of "NEW" spec after 278 000 km.
IF and IF and only IF that engine blows and I have to replace or renew I would only look at (1) a ZD 30 engine or (2) a BMW 3.0 Diesel engine from an X-5.

in the meantime I only want to have a MUCH bigger fuel tank :-)

Weens die baie gerol van die Tunas kry mens nogal D4Ds geredelik beskikbaar.
Ek het al gaan soek op die 4x4 Community forum. Die hoeveelheid mense wat probleme kry met die D4D is skaars, en as mens in ag neem hoe baie daar van hierdie karre is, dink ek dit se baie van sy betroubaarheid.
So wat van die D4D?

Ek sal nie so baie geld op n ombouing spandeer nie.al die moderne diesels het groot elektronics wat met mekaar moet praat en ek sien net probleme wat kan op duik ......krisis dink net aan al die kopseer

Gentlemen one day you guys must introduce me to Mr Volschenk as well.

I have Converted a ZD30 to a 2007 TD 4,2N. The total cost of the conversion was R9300 excluding the cost (R20K) of the motor which did 83"km on the clock. I would recommend the conversion. We had to buy new mountings from Nissan, placement different from ZD30. BOX and all others still the same. The ECU is now obsolute not connected at all. only the ref counter is not operating. My consumption is anything from 7,5 to 9,3 km/L on the open road . Look its not a fly machine but I tow my WJ Pzazz with it with the same "ease" as with my 4,5 GRX. I enjoy the 4,2 diesel all the endless plugs, sensor and wires of the 3L is now obsolute as well. I have ask Nissan what the use of the ECU is apart from the Reff counter but even their guys was not to sure.

On my TD 42 tdi 2009 we also had the ECU remove due to the fact that it was faulty ( fried in water). They Did something to the pump and we fitted a push button on the dash for the injector glow plugs once again the Reff counter must be sorted, On both vehicle I have done more than 20km now and I am very happy. On both my 4,5 I do not manage better than 5,8 km/L the GRX with suspension conversion only gets 4,8 - 5,3km/L. Look conversion is a personnel choice and most important in my view is the guys that do the job. Mistake are allowed but they have to own up to them. in my case the jobs was done right the first time. The conversion also depend on what you can get a td 42 for. Nissan, yes nissan, also manage to swop me a TD 4,2 for two jump seats. New injectors and Pump reconditioned. I am still deciding where it will be fitted to. I also like the idea of the UD 40 motor with the turbo with out the inter cooler. I will be weary of adding a turbo to a normal engine I know its done however I have heard lots of sad stories on the conversion specially on the Landcruiser 70's. If you have the option of buying a Y61 TD 42 go for it.

My grootste problem met die moderne diesels is die injectors wat net van suiwer diesel hou.
'n 4.2 NA kry nie meer as 100kw nie. So jy gaan nie 'n jaag duiwel kan wees nie.
Maar as jy 'n Os nodig het in die bundus, baie ver van die huis af, waar diesel nie so skoon is nie, dan dink ek die 4.2 maak sin. (enige tyd eerder as die ZD30?!?!?)
Maar soos Mr Volschenk se, dit bly 'n persoonlike saak...
