I apologise Peter, please instruct me if I need to take them down. Its just your pictures are really amazing as it is and I did not think it needed editing.

As for the obstacle I was unaware someone did do it as well :salute: I know I attempted it and landed on my belly the whole time.

And as for koos se klim that is the only obstacle where one could really kill your vehicle and not just damage it and non of us really wanted to take that risk; not that we think we could not make it for the cars are more than capable it is more a thing of, if our driving ability lets us down and a mistake is made.

You guys are really a fun bunch of guys and very entertaining we loved it, thank you.

No worries Christian, we enjoyed ourselves and i'm just ragging you a bit.
You are right about the rock. Something goes wrong up there, you are a little bit buggered!

I guess as a group we were a bit surprised at how cautious a number of the Cruiser drivers were, but you two (father and son) sure went the distance!

Thanks to everyone for a super weekend.
I think it was great to see what the capabilities of either brand of car was. We each made some obstacles look easy while other struggled. That is the name of the game, it shows how important approach and line choices are.
As for the, oops at the Klip. Thank goodness it happened when and where it did. I would have be-pooped myself if it happened further up! :surprised: Or on the decline.
Thanks again for the good memories!

Piet

This post is not about upping the ante, but I can give some technical and historical context to that particular obstacle.
Both Veldmuis (the 60s Cruiser) and the 76 Cruiser were just in front of me.
Both took more than 6 attempts (I stopped counting at that time).
The obstacle was very sandy, so each attempt resulted in further cavitation by the rear wheels, just below the final crest.
Veldmuis eventually threw in the towel, and the 76 eventually got up - Much to everyone, including the Patrol drivers', cheers and delight - that, after all, was the spirit of this event.

However, by then the cavitation made by the rear wheels just below the final crest had been such, that the longer wheel base Patrols would not have crossed over it.
I would have hit the centre of my chassis on the crest. Driving more agressively would simply have meant that I hit the centre of my chassis harder.
I do not think the Cruiser's front lockers helped much on that particular obstacle (It sure did on a few others). But the slightly shorter wheel base may have done it.
Be that as it may, it was clear to me at that stage that trying to go up myself would have been both silly and futile.

The more accurate statement for Christiaan would have been that, none of the Patrols WOULD go up there, rather than COULD go up there. Because no-one attempted it after that.
This is incidentally consistent with Koos se Klim regarding the Cruisers. I also have no doubt that all of the Cruisers have ability to go up Koos se klim (with the only possible exception Veldmuis, given its Curburattor setup). After all, if you search on Youtube, you will find Mad Manny doing it in his Fortuner!

The stress on the frame at that angle is a lot.
But if you try hard enough, for long enough, even a Patrol can break.
But I am surprised. I have not seen that before.
