David, where would I get the platinum plugs? What make?
On my last service I paid R132 per plug!!! So the other plugs are not that expensive...
And it's nearly R600 for the manifold gasket!

Before you change your plugs pull the first one (it is quite easy and you don't have to remove anything except the coilpack) and check if they are normal plugs or platinum

No - I have not done mine yet - I only removed the #1 plug to inspect as the parts place only had specs for the 4.5 and I couldn't remember off hand at the time what the 4.8 takes. I will most likely change the lot before mid June and will then give more complete feedback.

By the way - I was amazed at the midget size of the Patrol's oil filter compared to my wifes 1.8T VW - it is half the size!

An update to this post:

I have just changed all 6 plugs on my 4.8GRX for NGK Iridiums (ILFR6T-11 as per NGK technical guys in Jhb). The process took me 2 hours exactly, including removal of intake manifold etc, but I obviously did something wrong as there is a horrible miss now when the engine is idling and I am not sure what the problem is? I have checked all the plugs carefully and nothing appears to be wrong from what I have removed and re-fitted.

I did not measure the gaps and made the mistake of assuming these would all be fine as delivered! I also didn't tighten each plug to a specific torque, but don't think this would hve made a difference.

Any advise or pointers please?

Might be worth to spend another 2 hour, put the old plugs back and see if the problem disapear before digging deaper.

Hi Gary just make sure that you replaced all vacuum pipes and wiring back properly and that there is no cracks in the black air intake pipe
also check the airflow sensor wire is correct

100k Km later...4.8 still purring like a kitten I decided to pull the plugs again

Here are the results: Gap grew by only 0.03 mm over this distance. I didn't replace any gaskets - just reused the old ones
