change out the points for electronic ignition
To go this route with a tb42 what would it entail?
Pros & cons, cost?

Very easy job. Cost is just over R2k for parts, and to do it will take about an hour for guys like as and about 15 minutes for an experienced auto-,electrician.
Buy the module crom Bruce at Offshore Marine Services in Cape Town.
Pro is that you don't need to replace and adjust points at every service, and ignition timing will stay basically where you left it.
Cons are the cost and a slight fragility to electrical ham-handedness in the engine bay. If you are fiddling with connecting and disconnecting stuff and you get the order wrong you may create a short that blows the unit.
But it's not a magic wand. It reduces the error from a worn distributor but doesn't fix it 100% and it doesn't help if the problem is an issue with the advance mechanism.
