Just come back from Kgalagadi, 3115km total, fully loaded with rack and 33s, through Tankwa. 500 liters used.
6.3km/ltr or 15.87ltrs/100km

Thanks for that..
Considering 33 and 6.3 km/l is a good fuel mileage indeed.
Suspension?
Roof rack?
Total weight?
What was your average speed?

I have an average of 4.6 but I can get close to 5 if I am unloaded and light on the foot. Worst I had was 3kmpl loaded to the hilt with a trailer in sand. Even on a steep down hill with a strong tail wind I wont get near 7kmpl.... maybe if it was still stock but I doubt it.
Got a trip coming up around bots through kalaghadi and CKGR so I'm keen to see how I go.
Front and rear bars
Roof rack and awning
On 33s with a 2" lift
4.67KMpl or 21 liters per 100

Roof rack? Old front runner cheetah..the fat rim type, had ammo boxes in bags, tent bags and fuel and water.
Total weight? All in atleast another 400kg
What was your average speed? Kept between 100-110 on the tar, mostly 90 on dirt roads and then the slow sections through Tankwa and Vernuekpan. Also done about 500kms within Kgalagadi park at slow speeds.
Other point to note is that I have full zorst system. Also ran very hard tire pressure on the tar. 2.7 front and 3 rear cold pressure

Ja-nee. That’s impressive - I am on my second 4.8 and I only saw those numbers on rare occasions - down-hill and tailwind would be prerequisites.

My Patrol hardly uses any fuel, when its off.
Jokes aside, 3km/l - 4.5km/l at best. Towing, roof rack, 2" lift, 33" tyres, Bullbar.

In the mentioned post the guys just calculated wrong.
He said he did 227.4km on 28.88lt. That equals 12,7l/100km and not 10.
I guess if you drive on even (that means no bigger hills or mountains) tar ground with low speeds in highest gear you will be able to reach that.

Yup, his calculations are shitty. I have managed 7km/l before - long flat Karoo roads and 90 - 100km/h, no roofrack. but it is painful to drive that speed when you have 600km to travel. I can never imagine getting 10km/l in a 4.8. Just will not happen.

Still won't swop my 4.5 for a diesel. Fuel comsumption is a rock solid 18lt per 100km, with zero reliabilty issues. Just completed 7500km touŕ of a corrugated Namibia with zero issues.
