Yes a must in your ammo box is a spare rad cap.

Yes it was fortunately only the radiator cap that was the culprit. It is no joke sitting on the side of the road in 38 degree weather with nothing larger than a small bush for shade as far as the eye can see.

On a more serious note - Yesterday, with only 98km's to go, we lost the front left tyre traveling at 110kms whist overtaking a truck. Fortunately, I managed to control the monster with the trailer in tow & came to a safe stop luckily with no injuries sustained. The only major headache was the incredibly pathetic bottle jack that Nissan supplies!!

Just glad you are all ok Tony and when we chat about tyres next week we will definitely discuss TPMS. I am not a fan of technology but TPMS is almost a must on Patrol's. Never mind saving tyres it can save lives.

Wow Tony, that disintigrating tyre really tore up your poor car!

I have found the bottle jack to be effective if only used to lift the axle and hence wheel off the ground, rather than the chassis.

Shoo, looked like an adventurous drive, sorry about the issues.

A good lesson learnt for us to carry an extra rad cap though, I just got back from Botswana, yesterday it was 41 degrees, and I must say I was getting a little nervous for the coolant system!

I actually think it's one of the best axle jacks around. Short enough to get in with a completely flat tire, yet with enough extension. And no oil leaks to boot!

But Tony, where is your standard wheel spanner? I can just think that trying to operate that jack with a shifting spanner is a nightmare!
