Morning

Looking at the pictures it is clearly visible just how strong these vehicles where built. At the gutter rail, you have three layers of metal, inside layer that is attached to the inner structure of the vehicle, second layer is the outer shell of the vehicle that attaches to the A, B and C pillars, then you have the roof layer and then the gutter attaches to that. Mine was rusted on the outer layer and middle layer.

The project started somewhere in July / August this year, and I have lost track on how much money I have spend.....well maybe its better that way. :surprised:

I am considering replacing the rear sliding windows with a pop-up type window, has anyone done this before that can post a picture of yours?

Sorry no such plans, the vehicle had them when I bought it, but it is I would say a 2mm steel plate.

My previous Patrol I had done at Meano and Sons in Krugersdorp, the used checker plate with a steel frame.

They are called Gull wings.

Maybe ask the smart guys to draw you some plans..... you should basically be able to use the standard window as a template, as the window rubber that is currently there stays in place so the Gull wing just replaces the window.

Meano just pop riveted a hinge at the top and added the gas struts, looks very simple to do

As for the rubber, you'll most likely have to replace them with a seal type because the original rubbers will have a void where the glass would fit.
The locks you can get from 4x4Direct ( http://www.4x4direct.co.za/locks-and-ca ... ingle.html ) R95 each.
I can help you with making a template from the glass if you bring it in. Drop me a PM.
We deal with plastics, but we can get a product called Dibond. It's 2 thin gauge sheets of aluminium (like 0.6mm) bonded on either side of a sheet of high density polyethylene (HDPE). The entire thickness is 3mm.
Comes in a variety of finishes and colours.
Personally I'd probably go for a sheet of aluminium rather. The edges will finish off better in my opinion, but I'm just OCD.

You can also approach Willie from Cerafix Engineering in 80 Burman Road.
He manufactures 4x4 accessories, winch bars, rear bars and aluminium canopies as a sideline business.
Amazing quality work.
He can do the whole thing for you.

After we done all this welding, the holes, the area between the plates and welding was filled up with sikaflex.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it.

I think I will use either stainless or aluminium. I personally are not a big fan of treadplate Alu, but that is just me. The rubber is not a problem, belting supplies or EC Industrial Rubber Supplies should be able to supply.
