Morning Bruce,
Pretty much everybody that I have spoken to agrees its either a head gasket or cracked head. Graham does not do this work and referred me to Rob Green or SAC. I have verbal quotes from both of them and am awaiting written quotes. Will then take the Patrol in to get sorted. Quotes range dramatically depening on exact cause and effect.
Patrol has been standing in the garage for almost 3 weeks now. Must admit this is annoying.
Dale

Bruce, I went that route TWICE with ZD 30 motors .. the *&^$ that that fault can ONLY be a head gasket or cracked head cost me a LOT of money.
WIMPIE O still has the faultless head off Boezman .. make him an offer.

Must admit, for such an expensive job, phoning around getting an idea of price and what not is depressing. Service levels are shocking. No calling back, no follow up... on a job that is most likely around R40k?
So far only two places from around 5 have given me pricing indications. The others just promise but nothing... A week Later!
Anyway, seems it's going to be worst case around R40k? Eish! Suddenly that fuel economy is not looking so Bad!

Sjo Dale, thats allot of money man!!
I dont know how it can be so expensive, a brand new cylinder head from Alert is R8,400, engineering on rebuilding the head is around R1,000, head gasket and haed bolts are about R1,500, then its only radiator service, oil and labour........ not sure how they get to 40k?

Feel the same way. I am or was trying to make use of the motorrite warranty but eish, they only pay out peanuts for this Job considering the totals I now have. So am thinking to just do it myself...

What a Job! Dam these engines in these patrols are the pits to work On! Anyway, heads out and actually looks quite good. Clear blown head gasket between 2, 3 and 4.
Will drop head off at engineers Monday.
If head is ok, then will be very happy!
Question, if I already have a double dimple head gasket... do you get a three Dimple? Also, does that mean heads been skimmed Already?

Great stuff Dale
The thickness of the gasket is usually calculated from the piston pertrusion, so skimming the head will not make a differance. The combustion chamber is in the piston usually and the head is flat, but Im not 100% sure on the zd30 if they are the same...... have not opened one yet, but have the same job standing in my driveway waiting for me
