Dave,
Centurion guys, Gerhard and Mynhard know the 4.2 Patrol very well. Mine has been there for the last 8 years and never had a problem. Call and ask for Mynhrd and you will get sound advice.
400k km on my Troll and no problems. Engine never been opened and still running in spec.

Just a quick question, what mileage has the patrol done?

42000kms! Wow that's nothing at all, I agree with what michael said. Boksburg sac and set timing to what frans's recommendation is up the boost to 0.8 up the fueling to match the boost and a straight through 3inch exhaust. Oh yes utmost importance is the madman system! EGT, watertemp and water level sensors to start off with.

+1 on the Madman system, both me and Andre have them and they work awesome. You get live readings for EGT, Engine coolant temp as it exits the engine, coolant level, oil temp, and oil pressure and the best of all is you can set an alarm to sound when things go wrong.

I called the guys in Boksburg and will take the bakkie to them when I arrive back from work.
They recommend fitting a madman system, fitting a larger bore exhaust and tuning the fuel pump. Pretty much what you guys have also recommended....thx again for the good info
I think that is probably as far as I will go for now with regards to tuning mods. Maybe a larger front mount intercooler, but I would like to find out if it would make a noticeable difference. I guess that it might be more a case of improving engine life as opposed to performance due to the cooler air intake temps.
I did replace the stock intercooler on an older 911 turbo a while back, and that did made quite a big difference to driveability.
I also spoke to the the guys at summit 4x4. They are doing a package deal on a BRZ front bumper and snorkel for R12800.
The bumper looks good on the pics, and the snorkel is needed as I drive a lot on dirt roads.
Can anyone think of a reason not to go for that package. The bumper looks quite good and the price seems very reasonable.
Dave.

Dave, I am a big fan of a front mount cooler. It really cools better (IMHO) than a top mount cooler because you can install a much larger cooler than the top mount and it has zero heat soak from the engine. The down side of the front mount is firstly the amount of word...... took me about 3 days to in stall mine and to do all the plumbing. Secondly you need to make sure that you get enough air flowing over the cooler otherwise its not really that effective.
Her is a post I did when I rebuild my engine where you can see how I installed the cooler and how big it is,

Also, this is the mod I did to the front bumper to get more air to the cooler.....works like a bomb!

Thanks Tinus.....I've just called about the bumper.
They have one in stock and are keeping one back for me
I wasn't originally going to go with a new bumper, but I think it makes such a big difference to the look of the vehicle, and also to have some decent recovery and hi-lift jacking points is a big advantage.
Wow Michael, your intercooler and bumper mods look fantastic.

The front bumper must not make less air to the intercooler under the bonnet because it will make the engine go warmer and that will let the engine pack-up.
