Dirk.... quickly strip off the stuff you want and sell your 4.2 petrol..... then you buy the delightful diesel .... just before the river trip. Just think of how much money you will save on fuel !!!!

There is the practical challegne of gettig spares...

Besides that,
Is anyone going to confirm whether the milegae is really only around 200,000?
Is there a way of checking that it was not reversed somehow?

Dirk, if you compare this truck to that of Grant (besides the mileage), consider the extras on Grant's car
and consider the fact that Grant had the factory turbo, which I would still be inclined to trust more than any after market turbo.
Then I still think Grant car has better value.
Problem also is no bank wants to finance cars this old...

Yep, I know financing is out of the question, but there is always a personal loan to consider, however just spend over 200k on doing some building so finances is in dire striates.....

Mine is also 95 and on 230k so mileage is possible....

I don't care to much about turbo, I like the donkey and as long as it can go 100km/h I am happy.

Alex, spares are not that difficult to get, and then for the engine side of things most of the 2.7 diesel parts are the same as the 4.2's. Fuel is no problem.... you can chuck just about anything down its gullet and it will run ( with a little SO2 chucked in to help with the lub qualities ). That engine can be fixed almost anywhere in the bush if need be.

A donkey if non turbo'ed, yes it is but the turbo is really worth having, and just makes that motor come into its own.

Grants Patrol isn't the factory turbo, but an aftermarket Safari turbo that is basically properly suited to the 4.2 diesel motor. A well set up turbo, with the correct A/R ratios is all one would need. My turbo isn't water cooled, and has been super faithful to me for many years, through a variety of conditions.

Grants Patrol would be the ultimate 4.2 GQ diesel with all the extras done to it. The only disadvantage ( if one could even call it a disadvantage ) is that it only has a LSD, and I have seen that 4.2 come out of some pretty damn mean obstacles!!

Gents,

This is not a ST version. The biggest difference between the ST and the SGL, was,

No Chrome grill
No chrome review mirrors
No Two tone paint
LSD vs Diff Lock
Old style dash controls

There have been quite a few variations and on a trip to Kazakhstan a couple of years ago, I saw this. Standard front and rear lockers on some. Drum brakes front and rear on some.
As for the LSD, my troll has more than enough wheel travel. Ask Alex, they only two patrols that got up Klip Drift at Moegatle was his and mine.

In summary the Westrand people bought the Patrols with the bling :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:


Mine is still available and has a full service record. As for the Turbo, it is not a factory unit, but a Safari turbo with front mounted intercooler. Runs very well and you can call Graeme for a review as he has redone all the brakes about 5 months ago.

Imagine what your car would be capable of if it had lockers?
That is the only mod I would do to you car if it was mine.
And of course get Maxxis back into its feet again. Road tyres on your green machine is just 'Sies'!

Yeah, yeah I know, it just does not make any practical sense for me right now, but still very tempting.

yes you are correct. The deal with Sonja was simple. If I get stuck she will pay for the lockers. As much as I tried and believe me I tried hard, I could not get the Troll that stuck.

Need to get to the storage unit and take it for a ride. It have not driven it since January.
