I'm quite happy with my TD42's power. It serves my driving purpose 100% and gives me enough power to tow whatever I have to. Chris, for example, needs the petrol to tow his massive boat through the soft sand in Ponta do Oura, which the diesel struggles with as a standard, but wouldn't it be nice to have the performance of a big petrol and the economy of a powerful diesel..... almost the best of both worlds. The other advantage is that there will still be no electronics and sensors, so there is little to nothing to go wrong if a little water crossing needs to happen. Almost perfect reliability..... naturally if driven like a normal person... if you drive it like a racer and punish any motor it will bite you back at the worst time.

..... no not yet..... busy with building work at home so I can eventually park my Patrol in a garage !!.....

I see the Aussies get about 180-200 kw safely out of these motors. I think you will be a magician if you can get more than 300 kw out of one safely. For a drag race over 400 m and an engine rebuild after every 2 races you will probably be able to get 600 kw or so, but for over-landing I think it is achievable to get the same as a 4.8. Your fuel consumption will probably be better than the 4.8 and you will have less electronics and some smoke in the morning.

Absolutely keeping to the power around the 4.8 (185Kw & 420Nm) would be sweet !!! 200Kw would push it to the perfect machine with an easy 500Nm. This I think is not unachievable and with the right set up, could..... dare I say it..... out perform a 4.8.
