Hi guys!
Thank you very much for the warm welcome!
I am here to learn, all your suggestions & input are like gold to me, so keep them coming please.
I don’t really know the market for the Patrol so I'm not too sure how to spot a smoking deal yet.
I'm kinda in the honeymoon phase at the mo & they all look like good deals to me & I MUST have them all.
I really do have my heart set on a 4800 though. Is there a big jump from the 4500 to the 4800?
I have had some really nasty previous experience on buying cars in the past (80k school fees) so I am VERY picky & cautious.
Back to the 4800...
I am keen on an automatic, I swore for years I would never, but my last two cars have been auto & I am SOLD!

(Yes I'm a lazy git)
Are there any year model 4800's that have been beter than the rest? Like with the Golf Cti the '91 model just went better than the rest???
I am also keen on low kms, I'd rather take an older car with less kms than a new model with high kms. I pile on kms with my work, at least 50 000kms per year. So high mileage is a turnoff for me.
This car will be my daily drive.
Once again thank you all!

You can pick up good Facelift 4.8s with low mileage for under RK200. I would however suggest that you use something other than a Patrol for a daily runabout if you are going to do that kind of mileage per year. Those 4.8s are much more powerful than the 4.5s. But they both suck petrol, especially the 4.8. My 4.5 with 33" tyres uses 20 lt/100km, so I don't use it as a daily run about as I don't have oil sheikhs in the family. But don't let that put you off - Patrols are awesome. I would not swop my Troll for anything else but a GTR. My 1998 Troll is 16 years old and has 236 000km on the clock - an average of 14 750km per year. Keep looking, but be patient.

Hi JP
Welcome to the forum. The 4.5 had +- 145kW when it came out. The 4.8 have 198 kW. Big difference in power. For an automatic 4.5 you will have to search long and hard. They are very scarce. The 4.8 auto box I think is also much better. The 4.8 had a face lift in 2005 (I think). Pre-face lift looks the same as the 4.5. Post face lift is the newer look cars. It also seems like Nissan made some changes to the ECU of the 4.8 in 2010. The cars after that are a bit lighter on the juice. It also depends on driving stile and tires.
It is funny how I also started out looking at a cruiser and ended up with a Patrol. Must say I made the right choice with the Patrol and you will also see that is is really better value for money and in my opinion a better car. It is a pity that Nissan SA do not market the car better. But there is a trend that more people are starting to see the light.

The good cars are flying of Gumtree and the sorts.
Hope you find your car fast. There are some threads on the forum at thing to look at if you buy a car. Graham in Valhalla (PathMaker) will have a look at a car you want to buy for free. He knows his way around a Patrol.

I'm a self confessed "lood voet" I love power & the sound of a big engine so I gave up on economy a very long time ago...
I am fortunate enough to have most of my fuel covered as a work expense, but I still tend to make my garage card cry for mercy.
It really does come down to modifications & driving style I guess, if you ask my wife all my vehicles have too many mods & I have no style.
I hope I find my Patrol or it finds me, but I am very patient & it will happen.
